Chapter 38: Into the Trap

The forest was alive with shadows as the last rays of sunlight bled into the horizon. Logan struggled to keep pace with Aura, her form moving effortlessly through the dense undergrowth. Every step he took seemed to crunch louder than it should, betraying their position in the eerie quiet.

"Aura, are we sure about this?" Logan finally asked, his voice low and tinged with unease.

Aura didn't look back. "We don't have a choice. The longer we wait, the closer they get."

Her tone was clipped, her usual sharpness laced with something Logan rarely detected—fear.

He quickened his pace, nearly tripping over an exposed root. "But why are they after us? You keep saying this is about you, but—"

Aura stopped abruptly, holding up a hand. Logan skidded to a halt behind her, his breath catching in his throat.

"Quiet," she hissed.
