When I was sixteen weeks pregnant, my husband's mistress Michelle traveled to the Maldives for scuba diving and requested I join her.
At a depth of 30 meters, Michelle slashed my arm with a Swiss army knife and shoved me towards a shark's gaping maw. I managed to survive using my diving expertise, but Michelle ended up entombed in the ocean.
I anticipated my husband would accuse me of concealing the truth, but instead, he embraced me and said, "Marie, I hope you and the baby are alright."
I was overwhelmed with emotion. He stayed by my side at the hospital as we awaited the birth, tending to my needs attentively.
However, on the day our child was born, Zayn submerged the infant underwater with his own hands. He then confined me in a shark cage in the ocean depths, where I perished.
Before the communication ceased, his vicious and cruel words echoed through the intercom, "Didn't you enjoy dragging Michelle to observe sharks? I'll ensure you get your fill!"
When I regained consciousness, I found myself back at the ocean floor.
——
A searing pain shot through my arm as blood dispersed in the seawater. Several sharks in the vicinity detected the blood and circled around to attack us.
The terror instantly jolted me from the harrowing memories of my previous existence.
I disregarded Michelle's smug expression behind her mask and forced myself to remain composed.
In my past life, I had attempted to pull Michelle upwards to escape, only to be pushed by her into the shark's razor-sharp teeth when it charged at us with its enormous mouth.
This time, I opted to tug on the cord of Michelle's diving suit, dragging her towards the nearby shark cage, and activated the distress signal on the suit.
A crackling noise came through the radio headset--
A rescue team member anxiously said, "Zayn, gear up quickly, your wife has triggered a distress signal in the shark viewing area!"
Zayn replied nonchalantly, "Don't fret, Marie's prone to overreacting. Last time, she merely grazed a rock, causing a few drops of blood, and hit the alarm. It's a waste of resources."
The team member's voice suddenly grew urgent, "It's serious! It's a shark attack alert! Michelle is down there too!"
"Dive now!" Zayn's voice quivered with anxiety.
Michelle shot me a challenging look, brandished the Swiss knife at me, then tossed it into the depths. But her smugness didn't last long.
The scent of blood attracted three adult tiger sharks, which charged at the shark cage, knocking Michelle and me inside.
During the tumble, my abdomen slammed against the iron bars, and I tasted blood in my mouth, which I forcefully swallowed back.
Zayn's silhouette soon appeared above us, and I instinctively signaled to him, "Danger! Retreat!"
But he hesitated momentarily before resolutely swimming towards us.
After narrowly avoiding a direct hit from a tiger shark, Zayn entered the cage. Without so much as a glance at me, he tightly embraced Michelle.
He had initially brought three oxygen masks equipped with microphones, losing one when the shark struck him. Without hesitation, he placed the remaining two on Michelle and himself.
"Michelle, you'll be okay, I'm here, I'll ensure you reach the shore safely."
Despite the poor underwater reception, every word Zayn uttered resonated clearly in my ears.
Zayn finally cast a cold look at me, and I pointed to my stomach, once again signaling distress to him. My lower abdomen throbbed with a dull, tearing pain.
When I had escaped death in my previous life, Zayn had prioritized taking me to the hospital for the sake of our unborn child. But upon his return, his teammates informed him that Michelle had been killed by a fish, her body torn to pieces. He had told me it didn't matter, as long as we were safe.
