Robert abandoned me in Antarctica for two weeks for the third time. I promised him I'd allow Rebecca to move in with me. When Robert arrived to collect me, he looked bewildered.
"Angeline, why this sudden change of heart?"
He looked perplexed. "Didn't you swear you'd never let Rebecca live with us, even if our engagement ended? Why aren't you throwing a fit or giving me the silent treatment like usual?"
I gave a small smile and shook my head. "I'll do whatever you say, Robert."
He was unaware that Rebecca had intentionally shoved me under the icy Antarctic waters. I should have perished, but an undead spirit inhabiting the ice saved me. However, the price I paid was my capacity for love.
——
Three days after a floating corpse pulled me from the water, Robert finally decided to retrieve me. As soon as he stepped off the private jet in Antarctica and saw me, his forehead creased.
"Angeline, are you lifeless? You've been here for half a month and haven't budged an inch."
I sluggishly lifted my head, my eyes devoid of emotion. His gaze settled on my face, and he inhaled sharply.
"Angeline, it's only been a few days. How did you lose so much weight?"
"Now, now, Robert, don't scold Ms. Angeline. We left her plenty of food, so she couldn't have starved. If she wasn't still upset with you and maintaining her silent treatment, how else could she have lost weight? You should apologize to her, Robert."
Rebecca approached from behind him, feigning kindness and extending her hand towards me.
"Ms. Angeline, can you stand up?"
I didn't accept her help. Rebecca chuckled softly and grasped my arm, pinching it viciously with all her might. I watched impassively as her face contorted, her teeth clenched behind a forced smile. I found it utterly amusing.
"Don't bother with her, Rebecca."
Robert sighed in annoyance, picking up his coat and hurling it at me. I was wearing only thin clothing and was so cold I had lost feeling throughout my body.
"She seems to be enjoying herself here. She didn't even try to contact me after two weeks. It looks like she really wants to keep up this silent treatment indefinitely."
'Enjoying?' I laughed bitterly to myself. This was the third time he had abandoned me in Antarctica. Initially, it was just for a day or two, but this time it was for two whole weeks. Robert had said this was a pre-wedding trip, bringing me to Antarctica to see the aurora borealis. Just because Rebecca had ruined my extremely warm coat, I had mentioned feeling cold.
Rebecca had mockingly said, "If you can't handle Antarctica's temperatures, how can you possibly be Mrs. Angeline Payne in the future?"
She had deliberately removed her coat and soaked it in water while I desperately tried to stop her. When Robert saw this, Rebecca's expression changed from aggrieved and tearful to shivering and blocking me.
"Ms. Angeline, I didn't mean to take your coat on purpose. If you're unhappy, just talk to me. Why did you have to soak your coat in water?" She then sneezed.
"Angeline, you've gone too far."
Robert's expression changed to one of concern. He immediately removed his own coat and gave it to Rebecca.
"I wanted you two to improve your relationship on this trip, but I didn't expect you to be so cruel. Angeline, you're nothing but a venomous snake."
He refused to listen to my explanation, focusing only on half-embracing Rebecca as they boarded the private jet. I begged him not to leave me behind, but Robert coldly pried my fingers loose.
"Aren't you trying to cause trouble on purpose? I'll let you stay here as long as you want."
He tossed a backpack at me. His voice was colder than the glacier.
"Moreover, Angeline, aren't you determined to marry me? If you want to become Mrs. Angeline Payne, you must endure this test first."
He took away the portable charger when my cell phone was almost dead. I saw that my phone had only two percent battery left.
