It was unfortunate that her scheme was thwarted before it could even begin. I had just powered down my computer when a faint call came from beyond the door, sounding hesitant.
"Angel, is that really you?"
Robert's eyes were bloodshot. He moved towards me unsteadily, almost losing his balance, but I remained indifferent. His gaze was filled with fondness, reminiscent of years past when he regarded me as his most prized possession.
"Angel, where have you been lately? I've struggled to locate you. Why did you vanish without a word? Why did you have someone call off the wedding? Aren't you planning to wed me?"
I gave a slight nod. "Indeed, I've had no intention of marrying you for quite some time."
Perhaps it was when he abandoned me in Antarctica for Rebecca that I internally gave up. They had left me there under the pretense of a romantic getaway for two.
