Chapter 7: The Archon's Wrath
The throne room radiated an oppressive, golden light, its source emanating from the Archon itself. Shadows twisted unnaturally around the towering figure, its golden eyes piercing through the gloom. Kael, Lirael, and Rokhan stood at the entrance, their weapons drawn, their resolve tested by the weight of the Spire's dark energy.
"You came seeking answers," the Archon said, its voice resonating with power. "But there are no answers here, only oblivion. Submit to me, and I will spare you the torment of resistance."
Kael stepped forward, the shard blazing in his hand. "We're not here to bargain. We're here to end this."
The Archon tilted its head, as if amused. "Bold words for mortals. Let me show you the futility of your defiance."

The Battle Begins
The Archon rose from its throne, its form shifting and expanding. Wings of shadow unfurled from its back, and its arms lengthened into blades of pure golden fire. With a single sweep, it unleashed a wave of energy that tore through the ground, forcing the trio to scatter.
Kael charged, his sword blazing with the shard's power. He swung at the Archon, but its shadowy form shifted, avoiding the strike with unnatural grace. The Archon retaliated with a backhanded strike, sending Kael skidding across the room.
"Keep it distracted!" Lirael shouted, her staff glowing as she began to weave a complex spell.
Rokhan darted around the Archon, his daggers flashing as he struck at its legs. Though his attacks found purchase, the wounds closed almost instantly, golden light pouring from the gashes.
"It's healing too fast!" Rokhan yelled. "We need to cut off its power!"

Lirael's Discovery
As the battle raged, Lirael's eyes darted across the room, taking in the intricate runes etched into the walls and floor. They pulsed faintly, resonating with the Archon's movements.
"It's drawing power from the Spire itself!" she shouted. "We have to disrupt the runes!"
"How do we do that?" Rokhan asked, dodging another blast of golden fire.
"Leave that to me!" Lirael said, her voice resolute. She slammed her staff into the ground, sending out a ripple of energy that illuminated the runes. Slowly, they began to dim, but the effort left her visibly drained.
The Archon turned its attention to her, sensing the threat. "You dare tamper with my domain?" it roared, raising one massive blade.
Kael intercepted the attack, his sword locking against the Archon's fiery blade. The shard in his hand flared, pushing back against the Archon's overwhelming strength.
"Keep going!" Kael shouted. "We'll hold it off!"
---
Kael's Struggle
As Lirael continued to unravel the runes, Kael felt the shard's power growing within him, threatening to consume him. The whispers were no longer just voices—they were memories. Images of Elara, his village, and every failure he had ever endured flooded his mind.
"Use it," the shard urged, its voice merging with the Archon's. "Unleash me, and you will have the power to destroy this creature."
Kael gritted his teeth, pushing back against the temptation. "I'm not your puppet," he growled.
But the Archon seemed to sense his internal struggle. "That shard is mine," it said, its golden eyes narrowing. "You are merely a vessel. Give it to me, and I will end your suffering."
Kael's grip tightened. "You'll have to pry it from my dead hands."
"So be it," the Archon replied, unleashing another devastating attack.
---
Turning the Tide
Rokhan seized the moment to hurl one of his daggers, striking the Archon in its left eye. The creature roared in pain, staggering back.
"Nice shot," Kael muttered, regaining his footing.
"Don't get used to it," Rokhan said, grinning. "Now finish this thing!"
Lirael completed her spell, the runes on the walls and floor shattering like glass. The golden light around the Archon flickered, and its movements became slower, more erratic.
"It's vulnerable!" Lirael shouted. "Now's our chance!"
Kael charged again, this time pouring the shard's energy into his blade. The whispers grew deafening, but he pushed them aside, focusing on the Archon.
With a mighty swing, he struck at the creature's core. The shard's energy erupted, engulfing the Archon in a blinding light.

The Aftermath
When the light faded, the Archon lay crumpled on the ground, its shadowy form dissipating. Its golden eyes dimmed, but a faint smirk lingered on its face.
"You think this is victory?" it rasped. "You have only delayed the inevitable. The Spire is eternal… and so am I."
With those words, the Archon dissolved into ash, leaving the throne room eerily silent.
Kael collapsed to one knee, the shard falling from his hand. Its glow had faded, but its presence still lingered in the air.
"Is it over?" Rokhan asked, his voice cautious.
Lirael shook her head. "The Archon's gone, but the Spire still stands. We've weakened it, but we haven't destroyed it."
Kael picked up the shard, its surface now cold and dull. "Then we finish what we started. We find the Spire's heart… and we end this for good."
The trio exchanged weary but determined looks before stepping through the door at the far end of the throne room, the path ahead shrouded in darkness.
