The phone had been silent for less than a minute when it rang again. It was still Cecilia.
Alston sneered. Was Cecilia calling repeatedly just to humiliate him? Despite his efforts in helping with her daughter's eye treatment, she showed no gratitude. If she wanted to play this game, he was ready to confront her about slapping Marian the night before. Cecilia might have forgotten, but he hadn't, and she certainly hadn't apologized to Marian.
With a dark expression, Alston answered the call. He clenched his teeth and said nothing, and on the other end, Cecilia remained silent as well.
Alston couldn't hold back his irritation and sarcastically spoke first, "You call at this time, tie up my line, and say nothing. Is this supposed to be amusing?"
"My time, unlike yours, is very precious!"
Cecilia paused before speaking softly, "Alston, thank you."
