I thought the silence would help me decipher Lazarus actions and words but to no avail. He was the one person I couldn’t read, a permanent wall that keeps me from getting too close unless he allows it.

Lazarus gives you glimpses into his mind, purely calculating and specific. You only see what he let’s you see, you only take his words at face value because you cannot dig deeper into the real meaning behind it.

His kindness wasn’t surprising, although it was unnerving because I didn’t know which side was the real him.

A knock resounded from the door, pulling my attention away from my thoughts. “Lila.” I beamed, studying her appearance for any sort of injury.

She ran towards me with open arms, embracing me in a tight hug. “I’m so sorry. It’s all my fault; I should have protected you.” She bawled incoherently. “I’m so sorry.”
