My mind was spiraling, thoughts scrambled by uncertainty while his words played on a loop. My voice barely above a whisper, getting lost in the chaos. “What do you mean?”

Bjorn leveled me with a cold stare, a sharp blade that cut through space. “Your father created the resistance; he fought for a cause and was killed for it. You want to defend these monsters, but the worst is standing next to you.”

I slowly turned my head stiffly, peering into his eyes for the truth. “Is this true?”

Lazarus’s jaw tensed, a storm brewing in his eyes, clashing of rage and a heavy heart. “Are you really going to listen to him?” He snapped. “The resistance has taken lives, long before today.”

“That’s not what I asked.” I snarled, clenching my teeth. “Did you kill my father?”
