I fisted my hands at my sides, attempting to control the rage bubbling through me. “What do you mean you didn’t sanction the evacuation.” I gritted in question, staring at The Syndicate hidden in the shadows.

Donovan spoke, a sharp edge in his voice that turned to ice. “We cannot afford to scare the people more than they have already been. They need a semblance of normalcy until the next Luna is chosen.”

Instantly I bit my tongue, metal taste of blood pooling in my mouth. I wanted to contest the appointment of a new Luna, but this issue came first.

“I received a tip of a bomb being planted at the Central in the Golden Kingdom. We need to shut everything down.” I implored, frustration flaring in my voice.

They hummed in unison, tinged with annoyance. “A tip.” one of the men chuckled like it was preposterous.

Grinding my teeth, desperation curdled in my chest and spiked my pulse. “The people’s safety comes first.”
