My heart was racing, thundering in my ears as we made our way back home and into Lazarus office. I stated the obvious, bouncing my attention between them. “He’s going to know we were there.”
Emmett’s jaw tensed, setting all our evidence onto the desk. “Then we need to work fast for a conviction before he has a chance to cover up his tracks.” He ordered with a sense of resolution.
They sprung into action, reading through the mass paperwork, entirely focused. They were completely absorbed in discovering the true crimes of Donovan Van Acker. I studied them, awaiting a semblance of hesitation.
This wasn’t a stranger, this was Emmett’s father and Lazarus’s uncle. A conviction of a family member, surely apart of them didn’t want this.
