Chapter 125: Black Dwarf of the Obsidian Five

Black Dwarf piloted his spacecraft toward Naxxramas, where Garus was waiting. He knew his opponent was inside.

Spotting the incoming alien vessel, Wanda Maximoff took aim and unleashed a green fel fireball.

Boom!

The violent impact momentarily stalled the craft, green flames burning against its force-field deflection shield.

"Warning! Shield energy is critically low. Protection will disengage in ten seconds," the spacecraft's system announced as its power reserves depleted.

Black Dwarf kicked open the hatch with frustration, muttering to himself, "Fragile machines."

Below, 300 meters down, lay the floating fortress of Naxxramas. Without hesitation, Black Dwarf leaped. Mid-descent, the blue orb embedded in his chest turned deep crimson.

Like a meteor, he slammed into the fortress's obsidian rooftop. The impact was so powerful that even the rune-inscribed obsidian walls cracked under the force.

"Impressive material," Black Dwarf remarked, genuinely amazed. He had never encountered a structure or warship capable of withstanding his full weight from such a height.

Screech!

The gargoyle sentries atop Naxxramas sprang to life from their stone forms, spreading their wings as they sensed the intruder.

They ascended into the air, green magical projectiles forming in their claws and raining down upon Black Dwarf. The attacks, however, bounced harmlessly off his impervious body.

"Annoying pests," he growled.

The orb on his chest shifted back to blue, and Black Dwarf launched himself skyward. With a series of powerful leaps, he smashed each gargoyle into rubble.

After clearing the sentries, Black Dwarf stomped on the already fractured obsidian roof, causing it to shatter and sending him plummeting through.

In the control center of the floating city, Garus heard a faint noise above. The entire fortress seemed to shudder, dropping slightly in altitude.

Just as Garus prepared to investigate, a large hole burst open above him, and a hulking figure descended.

"How is this possible?" Garus muttered, looking from the gaping hole to the alien striding toward him. "You're Black Dwarf?"

Black Dwarf halted. "How do you know me?"

Earthlings weren't supposed to recognize him. The realization puzzled him.

Garus quickly assessed the situation. This had to be Black Dwarf, the primary target of the current mission. Judging by his earlier display, Black Dwarf was no easy opponent. Fighting him here would wreak havoc on the fortress.

"I'll kill all of you and destroy this place," Black Dwarf declared, charging toward Garus with unstoppable momentum.

Wanda's hands glowed with chaotic red energy, binding Black Dwarf in a corrosive haze meant to disintegrate him.

"Why is his body so durable?" Wanda exclaimed, realizing her chaos magic was ineffective. She couldn't even slow him down. It was a resilience she had only encountered in Garus when he activated his anti-magic shield.

Garus surmised that Ronan must have informed Thanos of his existence after their last encounter.

Sensing the location of his undead forces below, Garus activated Death Gate.

"I'll draw him away. We can't let this place get ruined. Watch over the fortress," Garus said to Wanda.

Before she could respond, Garus stepped into the portal, with Black Dwarf charging in after him.

On the battlefield below, Abomination and Hulk were locked in a competitive frenzy, seeing who could kill more enemies. Leviathan warship debris and Chitauri corpses littered the ground around them.

"Master!?" Abomination shouted, spotting Garus as he emerged from the portal. But before he could react, a comparatively smaller figure barreled into him, sending him crashing into the wreckage near Hulk.

"Hahaha, Blonsky, you're such a weakling," Hulk teased, relishing his rival's humiliation.

"Blonsky," Garus called, stopping the Abomination from retaliating against Hulk. Turning to Black Dwarf, he said, "Fight my subordinate first. If you can defeat him, then come after me."

"Coward! Warriors never shy from a challenge," Black Dwarf scoffed. "Don't think you can escape. No matter where you go, I'll find you."

Ignoring the taunt, Garus conjured a sphere of blood-red energy in his hand and infused it into Abomination.

This was Blood Frenzy, a spell that doubled the power of Garus' undead minions, though it came with the cost of indiscriminate aggression.

Roar!

A crimson aura erupted from Abomination as his eyes turned blood-red and the spikes on his body grew longer and sharper.

Devoid of reason, Abomination even targeted Garus, but the latter used Mental Domination to redirect his rage toward Black Dwarf.

"Hulk wants to fight him!" Hulk exclaimed, eager for a challenge. His body moved faster than his mind, leaping into the air toward the fray. Before he could land, however, a stray Leviathan warship collided with him, sending the furious Hulk after a new target.

Meanwhile, the enhanced Abomination clashed with Black Dwarf, their collision creating a shockwave that scattered dust and debris across the battlefield.

"This is exhilarating!" Black Dwarf roared, his dissatisfaction with Garus' avoidance turning into excitement as he faced a worthy opponent. He relished direct, physical confrontations and despised mages who hid behind spells.

The orb on Black Dwarf's chest cycled through various colors—blue, purple, red, and crimson—each seemingly tied to his abilities.

Observing from a distance, Garus noted that the device on Black Dwarf's chest appeared to be an anti-gravity mechanism, allowing him to manipulate his weight. The heavier he became, the more devastating his charges and defenses. Conversely, reducing his weight enabled him to leap incredible distances.

The battlefield around Black Dwarf bore the scars of his immense weight. Each step sank him deep into the ground as if he were walking through a swamp.

The intensity of the fight created a no-man's land, with neither combatant sustaining any visible damage.

"Their destructive pace is unmatched," Garus mused. However, Abomination's Blood Frenzy would only last an hour. After that, Garus would have to intervene directly.

With Black Dwarf's durability and immunity to magic, Garus realized he lacked the means to break through his defenses. Even a soul strike had failed to faze him. A new strategy would be needed to turn the tide of this battle.
