Kallruth piloted the spaceship as it gradually departed from Xandar. At that moment, Garus had yet to sense Bobby's presence. He had no idea where Bobby had been teleported to.
"Mr. Garus," Kallruth hesitated for a moment before speaking, "Our Skrull Queen is in the Andromeda Galaxy, the closest galaxy to the Milky Way..."
Garus was listening intently when suddenly, the system's voice rang out.
[System Mission Issued: Difficulty Level - S. Assist Star-Lord and his team in eliminating Ronan the Accuser's assault on Kyln Prison. Reward: 150,000 exchange points.]
Since Garus had taken possession of the Orb, he had been concerned that his actions might have caused unforeseen consequences. For instance, the absence of the Guardians of the Galaxy could lead to Star-Lord's father, Ego, assimilating the universe, which would be catastrophic.
Perhaps the system existed to counteract the disastrous consequences caused by his interference.
Turning to Kallruth, Garus said, "There's something important I need to do here. We must deal with Ronan first. Have you forgotten their last attack on Earth?"
Kallruth thought for a moment. Perhaps dealing with Ronan now was indeed the better choice.
"Set course for Kyln Prison. Ronan is about to launch an assault there."
"Understood, Mr. Garus."
Kallruth did not question how Garus knew this. He had always found Garus mysterious, as if he knew everything.
"Mr. Garus, we've detected Kree warships moving toward Kyln Prison!" Shortly after, their scanners confirmed the appearance of Kree battleships.
After his Dark Aster was destroyed on Earth, Ronan, as one of the Kree Empire's Supreme Accusers, requisitioned an even larger battleship—The Meteorite.
Near Kyln Prison, The Meteorite had remained hidden, waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
"Let's go. We'll infiltrate their warship. Blonsky and I will take them down from the inside."
Their small spaceship had no chance of destroying The Meteorite from the outside. The only way was to break in from within.
Meanwhile.
"Alert! Alert! The prison is under attack by an unknown warship!"
Suddenly, sirens blared throughout Kyln Prison, leaving inmates in confusion. Robots floated through the corridors, herding prisoners back into their cells, while the guards rushed toward the command tower at the central hall.
The Warden entered the surveillance room and demanded, "What's happening?"
A panicked technician replied, "A fleet has appeared outside the prison and is attacking us. The outer defense shields are rapidly depleting!"
On the external surveillance monitors, a massive Kree fleet was shown bombarding the prison relentlessly.
"Kree warships?! What is going on? Didn't we have a peace agreement with them?" The Warden, now frantic, ordered, "Patch me through to them immediately!"
"They're refusing communication..." The technician wiped beads of sweat from his forehead.
As the bombardment continued, the entire prison began to shake violently.
"Contact the Nova Corps! Request reinforcements!" The Warden's urgency escalated. It was evident that the attackers intended to destroy the facility.
"Warden… the communications tower has been destroyed. We can't reach the Nova Corps..."
Faced with such a dire situation, the Warden forced himself to remain calm. After a moment of silence, he commanded, "We cannot sit idly by. Deploy all combat droids and launch our small fleet to break through and request Nova Corps support."
As his officers rushed to comply, he added, "Keep an eye on the newcomers, especially Gamora. If they make any suspicious moves, eliminate them immediately."
He suspected they had entered the prison with ulterior motives.
The Kree assault plunged the prison into chaos. Some prisoners, ignoring the robots' commands, attempted to escape.
Watching the disorder unfold outside, Star-Lord called out to the guard outside his cell, "Hey, buddy, what's happening out there?"
"Stay put!" the guard snapped, his face filled with disgust. He was convinced that Star-Lord and Gamora had something to do with the attack, as they had just arrived before the assault began.
"Move, and I'll kill you where you stand."
"Alright, alright…" Star-Lord muttered. He had no idea why the guard was suddenly treating him as if he had murdered his entire family.
"Boom!" The sound of explosions roared louder with each passing moment. Star-Lord's ears were ringing, and dust rained from the ceiling.
Previously, a group of inmates had tried to kill Gamora, but thanks to Star-Lord's intervention, she survived. This had significantly improved their relationship.
Star-Lord knocked on the wall of the adjacent cell. "Gamora, I think it's time for us to get out of here."
"And how do you propose we do that?" she replied.
Star-Lord glanced at the guard's hand. It could unlock almost every door in the facility. He needed to figure out a way to cut it off.
The reinforced prison cells left them trapped. Gamora spoke again, "This is probably Ronan attacking. His target is you."
"Damn it, can't these bastards show up a little later? I haven't even had time to execute my escape plan!" Rocket Raccoon's already small face scrunched up even further in frustration.
"I am Groot," Groot said in a way only Rocket could understand.
"Forget it. This whole prison is done for." Rocket was livid—no profit, and now they were about to die.
Their cells were adjacent to each other.
"Boom!" A blast from a Kree warship tore through the ceiling of the prison hall.
Air started rushing out of the breach, creating a violent suction that threatened to pull everything into the void of space.
The guard outside their cell clung desperately to the bars.
Star-Lord leaned close to his ear and said, "Hey buddy, I need to borrow your hand."
"Ahhh!" The guard screamed as Star-Lord used his waist-mounted weapon to slice off the guard's hand. The unfortunate man was sucked into space, quickly turning into a frozen corpse.
Fighting against the low pressure and freezing cold, Star-Lord used the severed hand to unlock their cell doors one by one.
Just as they were about to be sucked into the void, Groot extended his branches, securing all four of them in place.
"That way!" Star-Lord shouted, but the vacuum rendered his words useless. Instead, he pointed toward the door.
Groot carried them toward it, inch by inch. Just as they neared unconsciousness from oxygen deprivation, they reached the door.
Using the severed hand, Star-Lord unlocked it. As they stumbled inside, they collapsed onto the ground, gasping for air, their bodies shivering from the cold.
