Chapter Eleven: Interview

At exactly ten o clock in the morning, Jessica and Kelsie walked into R and D company. They had woken up , prayed, fought over color combinations, choice of shoes and bags and smiled as they sat down for breakfast.

Leaving their house with a cup of latte just made them ready to take down the world. Calmly they went to the interview section and found out their did not really have much competitions. Immediately Jessie caught apprehension clearly stamped on her bestie face and she touched her...

" My God, what was I thinking. Jessie we can still turn back. All this people look so exotic and charming and we are just..... I mean, we are...". Kelsie went off as she did not know the next thing to add as she was already sweating buckets.

" Prepared". Jessica countered back " I saw us Kelsie, buried behind laptops, notepads and holding pens as we recollected. We are good for this, we got selected because we deserve it, we are worth it". She turned her bestie into her arms and looked at her "We can do this Kels, we can nail this". She nodded to her friend and her bestie nodded back.

And just in time...

"Miss Chard and miss Harvard... We are ready for you". The voice said as she walked back into the office purposefully. The besties stood up, held each other hands and walked into the office.

" Good morning" they said immediately they entered as they curtsied. Surprised by their greetings, Julie smiled.

" Welcome, do take a seat" the first interviewer said and they both sat down.

" Why do you think you are ready for this work". The second interviewer asked as soon as they were all settled.

Swallowing down the invincible lump in her throat, Kelsie answered " I believe that we are the best for the job due to long months of study and research for the best tools and materials to use for R and D Construction company".

"Hmmm" nodding her head quietly, she asked again " Why do you think we should employ you for this position".

" Employing us for this position is gonna take both our companies ahead. We have done our research, made our calculations, and are ready to kick off. We only need your permission to proceed". Jessica answered.

Julie smiled, she had been quiet this entire time as per her boss instructions through the ear buds she had been listening to. Immediately her boss heard their reply, he told her they were hired.

" Just another question Miss Chard". Julie said as she spoke up for the first time since the beginning of the interview.

" Julie, what the hell are you doing?. Damian asked through the ear buds. Julie calmly ignored her boss.

Jessica had noticed the quiet woman dressed in suit and black stiletto heels. Her hair was a contrasting color to the woman herself, yet it was tamed and responsible. It made her look matured and military like. All through the interview, Jessica had been praying that the woman would neither speak up nor show interest in them. She looked up sharply at the woman when she was addressed by her surname with a miss in it.

" Yes ma'am, could they be a problem". Jessica replied.

"Not really, Miss Chard". She stood up, Jessica swallowed. She calmly walked in those heels and rounded up the table to where they were seated. She perched herself close to the edge of the table and sat down. " What if you found out that you were working for someone you hate, what would you do?". Julie continued.

" I would continue working unless it is stated in the contract that I can withdraw at any time". Jessica replied although she did not like where the question was heading to.

" The contract implied that you can not withdraw working without you paying a huge sum of amount. But..... What If you really could not bear to stand this person". Julie asked again.

" I would work my way around the person, be rest assured. I can work under duress and with just about anybody". Jessica confirmed.

" Wonderful... Then in that case". She stood up as she straightened. Then she stretched her hand forward " Congratulations, welcome to the team".

Jessica and Kelsie exchanged looks then shook hands each with the military woman.

" Thank you so much. We will put in all our best". Kelsie said as she smiled.

" I am counting on it". Julie said and she smiled back.

She and her team then packed up and proceeded to leave when they heard

" Ummm, so who is Mr D".

Julie turned around and smoothen the edges on her face and replied " You will come in contact with him soon enough. He is just extremely busy, that's all". Then she continued working.

She did not have to ask who threw the question. She knew that voice and the woman behind it.

" Ouch" Jessica exclaimed as her friend nudged her.. hard. " What was that for"

" What game are you playing at. Why did you ask that".

Slyly, Jessica cocked her head " Nothing, just curious".

With an exasperated sigh, Kelsie dragged her friend " let us go"..

As soon as they stepped out, their competitors were by the door

"Congratulations "

"Congrats"

" Congratulations, wishing you the best"

"Congrats, wishing you success"

" Thank you all so much, honestly we did not believe that we could achieve it. Thank you so much for your support. We really appreciate". Kelsie said as she was overwhelmed by emotions.

" Yeah, thank you. We would not let you down. We believe you all applied because you want the best for R and D Construction company and we will give you just that. The Best".

" We will be expecting it". Their competitors said all at once.

The besties smiled and Jessica pulled Kelsie. " We better be on our way. Brainstorming ideas take a lot of work. See you guys later".

Their competitors waved at them.

"Mr Devon, you seriously do not need to take us home. We can handle ourselves from here". Kelsie said.

As soon as they set their foot on the curb, the insisting driver showed up at their side. Kelsie blew out a stream of slangs as she became tired and exasperated immediately.

Jessica quietly spoke up " So sorry, Mr Devon. We insist on going on ourselves and that is on period". She grabbed Kelsie, stopped a taxi and they both entered and left Mr Devon leaving speechless.

Calmly, Devon called Damian " I am so sorry Mr Damian. I have failed you but your ladies are more powerful than me. I tried in the morning but I could not win now".

" I totally understand Devon, return back to base immediately".

Inside the taxi.....

" Can you believe that guy. What is he feeling like". Kelsie asked angrily.

" The audacity. After insisting upon us in the morning, he came this afternoon. And who the hell is Mr D." Jessica countered back angrily.

" I do not like the way he was insisting on us with the order of Mr D and Mr R".

" Well, we can boldly say the interview was a success. Did you see that military lady, oh my gosh". Jessica asked.

" I saw her. I ignored her all the way. My skin got goosebumps when she called your surname. I recovered when she asked her questions". Kelsie said and shivered as she remembered that moment in the office.
