Chapter 74 Mary Jane is replaced

["You don't know? Hey, Bernard, do I have a girlfriend?" Harry turned to his butler, visibly puzzled by Peter's uncertain response.]

["As far as I know, no, sir!" Bernard replied dutifully.]

[Seizing the moment while Harry was distracted, Peter snatched the basketball from his hands. Slapping it playfully, he dashed away. Harry immediately gave chase, laughing as the two friends ran around.]

[After a while, Peter passed the ball back to Harry. Hugging it close, Harry grinned and asked, "Isn't this place pretty good?"]

["It's just so-so," Peter replied, feigning indifference.]

["At least I didn't get hurt for money."]

["Of course not!"]

["Well," Harry said with a mischievous smirk, "maybe I can still fix the no-girlfriend situation."]

[As they joked, Peter suddenly snatched the ball again and ran into the house. Once inside, his gaze fell on the couch where Norman Osborn's body had once been laid. The haunting memories of that day resurfaced vividly in his mind.]

["You know," Harry said softly, interrupting Peter's thoughts, "he always appreciated how you helped me get through high school." Peter turned to see Harry staring at a photo of Norman, lost in thought.]

["It would be nice if I could remember more about him."]

["He loved you. That's what matters most." Peter smiled, trying to shift the mood. "Hey! Let's go to the kitchen, grab some snacks, and catch the game."]

[Seeing that Harry hadn't moved yet, Peter threw the basketball to him, but Harry didn't notice that the basketball hit the vase. Harry grabbed the basketball with one hand and caught the falling vase with the other hand.]

[Peter looked at him a little surprised, but Harry himself was more surprised, "Did you see it?"]

["Yeah!" Harry said, placing the vase back in its spot. Peter's expression grew more solemn. Though Harry had lost his memories, his enhanced physical abilities remained intact.]

"It seems that the serum is still somewhat useful, but unfortunately the negative effects are too great. As long as there is a little negative emotion, it will be triggered by it. In serious cases, it may even form a second personality, just like Norman Osborn." A scientist looked at The Screen with regret.

"Is there no way to fix this?" a decorated general demanded. His uniform bore medals of distinction, his gray hair a testament to decades of service. "Our soldiers could benefit from this technology."

"No, sir," the adjutant replied grimly. "Dr. Mendel Stromm, the scientist behind the enhancer, was killed by Norman Osborn. The flaws are inherent and cannot be corrected."

"What about Oscorp? Doesn't Harry Osborn have the resources to resolve this?"

"Sir! Before Harry Osborn was injected with the potion, he was concerned about Peter Parker's, but after the injection, he completely lost his feelings for his friend and only wanted to kill Spider-Man! Our people have deduced that this is also one of the side effects, but it is not as obvious as the formation of a second personality."

"Okay! What about the origin of Spider-Man's super powers? What about that spider? Have you found a similar one?"

"The people from Oscorp reported to Dr. Mendel Stromm that they had done research on super spiders, but later found that these spiders were too poisonous. No life could resist their toxicity, and all those bitten died. After Dr. Mendel Stromm's death, they gave up similar research."

"What about the spiders?"

"Destroyed, sir!"

"Fuck!" The general cursed inwardly. They had never given up on research in this area, but unfortunately there was no progress.

[Meanwhile, Mary Jane arrived at the theater for rehearsal, only to find another woman performing on stage. The woman sang beautifully, descending the steps gracefully until she noticed Mary Jane at the door. Her voice faltered, drawing the director's attention.]

["Why did you stop?" the director snapped, noticing Mary Jane for the first time. Whispers spread among the crew: "Why is she here?"]

[Mary Jane stood frozen, staring at the woman who had replaced her. The assistant approached with a forced smile. "Hi, Mary Jane! We've been trying to contact you. So sorry!"]

["Just because of one bad review?" Mary Jane asked, her voice trembling.]

["No, honey. Every newspaper," the director interjected bluntly, offering no comfort.]

["Mary Jane, dear, let's sit down and talk this through," the assistant tried to soothe her, but the director cut him off. "Listen, if you want, we can tell people you're sick."]

[Tears welled up in Mary Jane's eyes. Shaking her head, she turned and walked away without another word. Behind her, the assistant sighed. "We handled this poorly."]

["Yeah," the director agreed. "Now focus on the rehearsal!"]

"It's not a nice thing to hear, poor Mary Jane!" Tony said sarcastically as he helped Rhodes equip his armor with weapons.

"You can see that she is very sad. Fortunately, she can't hear your harsh words, otherwise she would be even sadder."

"Hey! I'm helping you modify your armor! How can you say that!" Tony looked at Rhodes dissatisfiedly and accused him of being sarcastic.

"Sorry!" Rhodes raised his hand to apologize.

[As Mary Jane walked down the street, her heart heavy, she suddenly noticed people applauding nearby. For a brief moment, she thought the applause was for her, and her expression brightened. However, a voice from the crowd shattered her illusion: "Yeah! Spider-Man!"]

[Her face fell as she realized the cheers were for Spiderman, swinging overhead. The crowd's enthusiasm for Spider-Man only deepened the ache in her chest. At the same time, workers at the theater removed her name from the marquee and replaced it with someone else's.]

"Oh, look at her expression. How can she make that expression to Spider-Man fans?"

"Although she failed at work, she is enjoying Spider-Man's love alone!"

"Everyone wants to have a successful career and love life, but reality doesn't always let you have it as you wish."

"Although I sympathize with her, she really didn't sing very well. I thought it was just me, but I didn't expect all the major newspapers felt the same way!"

Mary Jane looked at the screen and couldn't help feeling sad and wanted to cry. Harry comforted her.
