Inside a dimly lit room, a television played the footage of Alex Makunouchi vs. Marcus Rosario. The final round of the championship fight was being replayed, showing Alex going wild in the last moments.
A middle-aged man in his 50s sat on a leather sofa, his sharp blue eyes fixed on the screen. His pure white hair, though slightly receding, was neatly combed back. He had thick white eyebrows, a slightly wrinkled face, and a stern expression—though, at times, his lips would curl into a devilish grin when something piqued his interest.
This man was known only as K—a legendary trainer who had coached four world champions in the past.
As he watched the footage of Alex in the 12th round, his mind raced.
"It's a pity… His mindset is wavering."
"He doesn't have the determination to kill in the ring… Not in the early rounds, at least."
Picking up the remote control, K paused the footage—freezing the screen on Alex's devilish grin during his rampage in the final round.
K leaned forward, staring at the frozen image.
"But this… This is what I've been looking for."
He let out a low chuckle.
"I've seen many geniuses in the ring. But this kid?"
"He's no genius—he's a monster."
"A monster that surpasses human capabilities."
A smirk crept onto his lips.
"It's a shame he already has a team."
He reclined on the sofa, folding his arms.
"Still… I want to see if he has a limit."
As the room remained silent, K whispered to himself:
"I'll be watching your every match, Alex Makunouchi."
A devilish grin spread across his face.
Australia – Kangaroo Boxing Gym"Hi, I'm David from Fox News!"
The voice of a Fox News reporter echoed through the large gym. The camera focused on the boxing ring, where two men stood inside the ropes—both drenched in sweat from an intense sparring session.
The first fighter, on the right, was a familiar face to the world.
"The Great" Alex Makunouchi.
Current Lightweight Super Champion of the world.Holds three belts: WBC, WBA, and WBO.On the left side stood another champion.
James McGirt.
The reigning Welterweight Super Champion.Holds two belts: WBC and IBF.A 5'6" bald man with dark skin, known for his technical prowess and sharp counterpunching.David gestured toward the ring, speaking into the microphone.
"We're here today to witness the sparring session between two of the world's best champions!"
The camera zoomed in, capturing Alex in his Hitman-style stance, while McGirt remained in a semi-crouch position in the corner.
Alex unleashed a flurry of flicker jabs, forcing McGirt onto the defensive. The welterweight champion had no choice but to block every punch, unable to escape.
Then—
DING! DING!
The bell rang, signaling the end of the session.
McGirt walked back to his corner, breathing heavily, his arms covered in sweat from absorbing countless jabs.
In contrast, Alex remained calm. Relaxed. Unshaken.
Removing his headgear and mouthguard, Alex turned toward his corner, where Coach Kamogawaand Yu were waiting.
Yu, holding a water bottle, stretched out his small arms to offer it to Alex.
Seeing this, Alex smiled and crouched down to accept it.
"Did you enjoy watching the sparring session?" he asked.
Yu's face lit up with excitement.
"Yes!" he said with a nod.
Kamogawa handed Alex a towel, which he used to wipe off his sweat.
Meanwhile, McGirt walked toward him, extending a hand.
Without hesitation, Alex shook his hand, exchanging a look of mutual respect.
At that moment, David from Fox News approached them, raising his microphone toward McGirt.
"Hi, I'm David from Fox News. Can I ask you a question?"
McGirt eyed the microphone, noticing it was inches away from his mouth.
"Back it up a bit, man," McGirt muttered.
David awkwardly moved the mic to a comfortable distance. "My bad."
McGirt smirked. "That's better. Go ahead—ask anything related to boxing."
David nodded. "Did you invite Alex here to Australia?"
McGirt shook his head. "No, I heard from my manager that he was here for a photo shoot, so I requested a sparring session. He accepted."
David pressed further. "Was it to help you prepare for your upcoming third title defense against Pernell Whitaker?"
"Yeah," McGirt confirmed.
"Thank you for your time." David then turned toward Alex, who had just finished wiping his face.
"Champ, do you remember me?" David asked in English. "I'm David from Fox News."
Alex glanced at him, tilting his head slightly.
"Yeah… kinda?"
David chuckled. "That's an honor. Mind if I ask a few questions?"
Alex shrugged. "Sure, why not?"
David gestured toward Yu, who was standing outside the ring ropes.
"Who's that little guy?"
Yu, confused, pointed at himself.
Beside him, Coach Kamogawa also looked puzzled, neither understanding English.
Alex signaled Yu to come into the ring. The boy walked forward, and the camera zoomed in on his face before switching back to Alex.
Alex looked at David.
"He's my son."
Shock filled David's face.
Then, after a second, he realized—
"Oh, you adopted him?"
"Yeah," Alex confirmed.
David composed himself. "Next question—when is your next fight, and who will it be against?"
Facing the camera, Alex spoke clearly.
"My next fight will be on February 17th. It'll be a rematch against Marcus Rosario—because he deserves another shot at me."
David nodded. "Last question—there's a super rookie in the lightweight division, the same age as you. Jean-Pierre Manuel.
"He's currently on a seven-fight win streak after moving up from Jr. Lightweight. His punches are so fast that the eye can barely follow. The media is already hyping him as being comparable to Ricardo Martinez, the #3 pound-for-pound fighter in the world.
"What's your opinion? Do you think you'll cross paths in the future?"
Alex's expression hardened as he looked at the camera.
"That's great for the division," he said. "I wish him luck.
"And if he's really comparable to Ricardo Martinez… then that's great news.
"I want a fresh challenger. I thrive on challenges."
David raised an eyebrow. "So—is that a confirmation that you might fight him in the future?"
Alex smirked.
"Who knows? If he climbs the rankings, then I'm down for it."
David grinned. "Thank you for your time."
He extended his hand, and Alex shook it firmly.
Then, without hesitation, Alex picked up Yu, carrying him on his right side.
Yu's little hands wrapped around Alex's neck as he looked at the camera.
The camera zoomed in.
Alex smiled at Yu, then turned back toward the camera.
"Say hi."
Yu waved at the camera, his expression innocent yet determined.
Then Alex declared:
"Yu, as my son, will become an even better boxer than me a decade from now."
December 31st – 11:00 PM
A month had passed, and in that time, a lot had changed. Alex Makunouchi and his team had traveled to Singapore, where he had conducted interviews, participated in photo shoots, and expanded his growing fame. Now, back in Tokyo, Japan, he was enjoying a quiet night at home.
Inside the Makunouchi household, the warm glow of the living room light cast a cozy atmosphere. Aunt Hiroko sat on the sofa, gently holding Yu'stiny hands, her face filled with motherly warmth as she pinched his soft cheeks. Yu simply stared at the camera with innocent curiosity, not fully understanding what was happening. Alex, lying comfortably on the couch, watched the scene with a relaxed smile.
Off to the side, Ippo held a camera, positioning it just right before capturing the wholesome moment. The click of the camera shutter echoed softly.
"It's a cute picture," Ippo said, lowering the camera and smiling.
As the moment settled, Alex turned his head toward Hiroko. "Aunt, you won't be lonely in this house anymore when Ippo and I are at the gym."
Hiroko glanced at him, then smiled. "It's still the same. Yu will be enrolled in school soon."
Alex blinked as realization hit him. Ippo, setting the camera down, nodded in agreement. "Then we'll need to hire a driver to take him to and from school."
"That's a good idea," Alex agreed. He sat up from the couch, stretched his arms, then walked over to his bag. From inside, he pulled out a folder and made his way toward Hiroko.
Hiroko gently placed Yu down, and the child waddled over to the sofa, grabbing the remote and turning on the TV. As the screen lit up, Yu settled down comfortably.
Meanwhile, Hiroko opened the folder and gasped. Inside were property documents and a photo of a mansion.
Ippo, noticing his mother's stunned expression, walked over and peered inside the folder. His eyes widened. "Wait… Alex, you bought a mansion?"
Hiroko looked up, still processing the information. "Alex… you bought this?"
"Yes," Alex said, raising a hand before she could protest. "Before you say anything, hear me out."
Hiroko and Ippo both turned their full attention to him.
Alex took a deep breath. "I've noticed a lot of strangers outside our house lately—people coming and going, hoping to get a picture or an autograph. We don't have privacy anymore. So, I bought a mansion four streets away from here. I also hired two security guards and a couple of maids, and I plan to hire a driver as well."
Hiroko finished listening and sighed softly. "You didn't have to do that… We can still live in this house. The crowds don't bother us that much."
"This is for our safety," Alex said firmly.
Ippo scratched his head. "When will we be moving out?"
"Probably next week," Alex answered. Then he smiled, adding, "Don't worry, you won't be bored there. There's a swimming pool, a medium-sized boxing gym with equipment, and I even made sure there's a garden house and a big lawn full of grass."
Hiroko's eyes softened at the mention of a garden. "Can I at least bring my carefully planted flowers?"
Alex chuckled. "Of course. The garden house is specially made for you, Aunt."
As the conversation settled, Yu—who had been watching TV—suddenly stood up and wandered toward the dining table. His eyes widened as he saw multiple delicious dishes laid out for New Year's Eve. His small mouth opened slightly as he began to drool.
Alex glanced at Yu and grinned. "Now, let's celebrate the New Year."
Ippo picked up the camera again, setting it on timer mode before walking over to join the others. Hiroko took her place beside Yu, while Ippo and Alex stood on either side.
The camera clicked, capturing the moment just as the clock neared midnight.
