CHILLS

Centuries ago,

“I know you aren't here to taste my boring tea. Tell me, what brings you here, Prince Kamaz?" General Arnold asked with a smile, flashing a missing tooth.

Kamaz was seated before him, looking as regal and intimidating as always, but today, he had dropped his imposing look for a reason.

"I have someone that wants to join the war.

There isn't enough time to take him through your drill but he is skilled enough. I trained him myself…” Kamaz started.

"Is the lonesome Prince Kamazotz asking for a favour from a mere general like myself?” General Arnold asked.

He was the only general Kamaz could place a semblance of trust on. He was the general who had been speaking with the King the day Zelda was made his maid.

Falkur desired to join the war and asked him for this favour and here he was.

Falkur Norma, the human he had saved from the hands of armed thieves three years ago. He had just done it because he knew how weak Falkur was at the moment, but after the incident, like a lost puppy, Falkur had made it his sole purpose to follow him, abandon all other prospective areas of his life -not like there was any worthwhile.

At first, Kamaz tried to push him away, just like every other human who tries to act the opposite of what the other does, but Falkur had seen the way Kamaz had fought off those men like he was playing with toddlers.

He had seen the way Kamaz had tossed the men aside while he had been begging for mercy.

If Kamaz hadn't come and aided him, the thieves would have looted all of his aunt's wares, and then he would have gotten a real taste of death because his aunt would have made it her responsibility to make his life hell.

But out of desperation and a gnawing raw need, he had seen life in the sword. He lived in protection, and he eventually gave up everything to follow the Prince - the Prince no one wanted.

Three years of following Prince Kamaz and he could boldly tell that all that was known about him were lies. The Prince isn't who they think he is and underneath his nonchalant exterior is a man carrying a burden they are unaware of.

After some seconds Kamaz answered.

“It is"

“I never thought the day would come when… “ The General started but Kamaz cut him off.

"You have only one request to ask of me.

Ready his armour, I'll come with him tomorrow.

Good night, General Arnold, “ Kamaz said, standing up.

He knew the General would have a request in return but he didn't have the patience to listen to the political speech he was sure that would follow.

*********************

The general, his men - of which Falkur is now a part - and Lord Kamaz rode to battle that day. Victory was assured even before they left the Palace but they had underestimated the skill of their opponents.

Their opponents might be a couple of thousands less, but the men who were fighting were very strong, and one of them could face off fifteen men from General Arnold’s soldiers.

As Kamaz fought, clearing anyone from his path, he made sure to keep an eye on Falkur. This was Falkur's first battle and Kamaz feared that the boy was more excited for war than scared of one of the possible outcomes.

Falkur fought as he had been trained, but his excitement and want for recognition had driven him to the forefront, where he fought even better. But one of the soldiers he thought he had killed, stood up with his bleeding side and lifted his sword to stab him with his last strength.

Kamaz had seen it just in time, and he vamp sped towards that location, pushing Falkur out of the way in time, and the sword had lodged close to his heart.

No one had seen him because they were more concerned about surviving the next sword that was being swung at them and because of how fast he had moved.

With one strike, he ended the life of the dying soldier before pulling the sword out from his chest.

Falkur stood up from the floor, his eyes reflecting a clear understanding of what just happened. Regret coated his tongue but before he could bring himself to say anything, Kamaz handed him back his sword and continued fighting.

He became more careful, knowing how close he had been to his death because of his stupidity but Lord Kamaz was not the same.

The sword had almost struck his heart, and even though he wouldn't have died if the sword had sunk in, the sight of his blood had caused his demon to lift its head.

He tore at many, slaughtering the enemies in his path relentlessly and effortlessly. Falkur became scared. He knew what had happened.

On the fourth day, when the war was won, Kamaz had taken off into the forest leading to one of the gates to the Kingdom.

The troop dispatched back to the Kingdom and the streets were filled with praises from people. Falkur, who was supposed to follow through like the other soldiers, cut through the crowd as he ran in search of Zelda.

He found her and the both of them journeyed to the forest where Kamaz had been trying to subdue his demon.

When they got to a certain point in the forest, Falkur suggested that she wait there while he acted as bait to lure Kamaz out.

But while he was gone, Kamaz who was more demon than man with elongated nails and fangs, saw Zeda.

When she saw him coming, she began to play the Pipa. Her hands shaking, the tune off because of the aura Kamaz was moving with. His hair bristled with the wind and with the grass beneath their feet.

Zelda tried to steady her hands and beating heart but when Kamaz lifted his eyes and she saw the red swirling in them, she felt death call unto her.

Before she could think of anything, Kamaz was before her and he flung the Pipa away from her hands.

The times she has encountered him in this state, he was always restrained by soldiers but now there was no one around.

She felt literal chills as he looked at her and smiled wickedly.
