Chapter: 7 The unexpected spy

As Elisa continued to interrogate Dr. Roman, she began to notice something peculiar. One of her team members, a quiet and reserved man named Victor, seemed to be growing increasingly uncomfortable with the interrogation.

At first, Elisa thought it was just Victor's usual stoic demeanor, but as the interrogation wore on, she noticed that he was subtly trying to intervene. He would glance at Elisa with a hint of disapproval or clear his throat to interrupt her questioning.

But what really caught Elisa's attention was when Victor casually leaned against the wall, his eyes fixed on Dr. Roman. As he did so, his hand slipped into his pocket and he quickly palmed something small. Elisa's eyes narrowed as she tried to see what it was, but Victor's hand was too quick.

A few moments later, Victor excused himself to grab a glass of water from the adjacent room. As he walked out, Elisa noticed that he left his phone on the table, the screen flashing with an incoming message. The message was quickly deleted, but not before Elisa caught a glimpse of the sender's name: "NovaSpire".

Elisa's curiosity was piqued. What was Victor hiding? And who or what was NovaSpire?

As the interrogation finally came to a close, Elisa turned to Victor and asked, "What's wrong, Victor? You seemed a bit...off during the interrogation."

Victor hesitated, glancing around the room nervously. "I don't think we should be doing this, Elisa," he said quietly. "Dr. Roman doesn't seem like a bad guy to me. He's just a scientist trying to do the right thing."

Elisa's eyes narrowed. "What are you talking about, Victor? We have evidence that Dr. Roman is working with the Apex gang."

Victor shook his head. "I've been going over the evidence, Elisa, and I think we've been misled. I think Dr. Roman is being framed."

Elisa's expression changed from skepticism to surprise. Could it be true? Was Dr. Roman really an innocent man?

As she pondered Victor's words, Elisa realized that she had a decision to make. Should she continue to pursue Dr. Roman, or should she start to investigate the possibility that he was being framed?

Elisa's eyes locked onto Victor's, searching for any sign of deception. But all she saw was genuine concern and conviction.

"Okay, Victor," she said finally. "I'll listen to what you have to say. But if I find out you're hiding something from me..."

Victor nodded hastily. "I understand, Elisa. I'm not hiding anything. I just think we need to take a closer look at the evidence."

Elisa nodded, her mind racing with possibilities. "Alright, let's do that. But discreetly. I don't want to alert anyone else until we're sure what's going on."

Victor nodded, a look of relief washing over his face. "I'll get started right away."

As Victor turned to leave, Elisa called out to him. "Victor?"

He turned back, his eyes questioning.

"What's NovaSpire?" Elisa asked, her eyes narrowing.

Victor's expression froze, and for a moment, Elisa thought she saw a flicker of fear in his eyes. But then, his face smoothed out, and he said, "Oh, that? It's just a...a secure communication channel. Nothing important."

Elisa's eyes lingered on Victor's face, searching for any sign of deception. But he seemed sincere, and she decided to let it drop...for now.

As Victor left to start his investigation, Elisa couldn't shake off the feeling that she was missing something. What was Victor hiding? And what did NovaSpire have to do with anything

As soon as Victor left the room, he quickly pulled out his phone and dialed a number. He waited for a moment, his eyes scanning the surrounding area to make sure he was alone.

"NovaSpire," a low, gravelly voice answered.

"It's Victor," he said, his voice low and urgent. "I have an update on the situation."

"Go ahead," NovaSpire replied.

Victor quickly filled NovaSpire in on the details of the interrogation, including Elisa's suspicions and Dr. Roman's refusal to crack.

NovaSpire listened silently, his breathing the only sound on the other end of the line.

When Victor finished, NovaSpire let out a low, menacing laugh.

"Looks like it's all going according to plan," NovaSpire said, his voice dripping with satisfaction. "The Apex gang is right where we want them."

Victor's eyes narrowed, his mind racing with questions. What plan was NovaSpire talking about? And what did the Apex gang have to do with it?

But before he could ask any questions, NovaSpire cut him off.

"Keep playing your part, Victor," NovaSpire said. "We'll take care of the rest."

The line went dead, and Victor was left standing alone in the hallway, his mind reeling with questions and doubts.

Who was NovaSpire, really? And what was his true agenda?
