Highlord

The highlord is a hereditary position chosen by the king of Shoton. This means that the position can always be appointed to a new family if chosen so.

They have final say about what happens on Sartinca. Are in charge of the royal army, taxes and spending and protection of the island.

Royal council

The royal council are advisors to the Highlord, though they at first only had influence through the highlord they can also sign in laws with majority votes. These will then pass unless intervened by the Highlord.

They are responsible for informing the king on things he doesn't have knowledge about and keeping these sectors of the island alive.

Positions are:

-Head council

Can act in the name of the highlord if he is not present during a meeting. Keeps the day to day operation going. Signs in laws if highlord does not intervene.

-Council of finance

Is in charge of the royal bank,keeps an eye on spending, does the accounting for the state. He also collects taxes.

-Council of war

He is in charge of the royal army, a force spread throughout the islands major cities to protect the assets of the nobles and keep general peace in the cities.

-Council of trade

Controls what gets sold and has say over their prices.

-Council of Jitai

Is the voice of the Jitai church, the main religion of the Shoton empire. Their churches are the gathering centers of the people and their priest are the spiritual voices. In a way they determine what's good and bad.

Lower lords

These are the nobility of the island, all of them rule their own plot of land and some of them rule whole provinces. Some of them are branches of the Hellia family others not. You can gain this position having been lorded by a highlord or the king, through military merit , marriage, adoption, wealth, land ownership, spiritual endeavors or simply a favor.

Upper class

These are wealthy or influential people that are too rich to consider a peasant yet to important to consider a peasant. These are merchants, high level Jitai or military.

Peasantry

The commonfolk. Poor, unimportant and serving the upper class.

Slaves

Humans that have been sold into slavery by their country being conquered or having been captured. For humans it is lifelong yet there is a underclass of demons who have become slaves but can work themselves out of it.
