Chapter 44:A High -Speed Chase

Aurélie's heart was racing as she grabbed onto the back of the seat. "We've got company," she said, her voice tight with fear.

Pierre's eyes flicked to the rearview mirror, and his face set in a grim expression. "Hold on," he said.

The car surged forward, speeding through the city streets. Aurélie's stomach was in her throat as they weaved in and out of traffic, the SUV hot on their heels.

Léon was white-knuckling the door handle, his eyes fixed on the SUV. "We're not going to lose them," he said.

Pierre's face was set in a determined expression. "We'll see about that," he said.

He took a sharp turn, and the car skidded around the corner. Aurélie's heart was in her throat as they narrowly avoided a collision with an oncoming car.

The SUV was still behind them, its tires screeching as it took the turn. Pierre floored it, and the car surged forward, speeding through the city streets.

Aurélie's knuckles were white as she clung to the seat. She couldn't believe they were doing this. They were going to get themselves killed.

But Pierre seemed to know what he was doing. He took another sharp turn, and the car skidded around the corner. The SUV was still behind them, but it was starting to fall back.

Pierre's face was set in a triumphant expression. "We're losing them," he said.

Aurélie let out a sigh of relief as the SUV disappeared from view. They had made it. They had escaped.

But as they slowed down to a stop, Aurélie realized that they weren't out of the woods yet. They still had to take down The Phoenix.

And that was going to be a whole lot harder.
