By the riverside workshop, inside the forging chamber, Link Star sat at his workbench, staring intently at the draft in his dimensional mailbox.
It had become a habit for him to record his experimental logs, plans, blueprints, and memos in the drafts of his dimensional mailbox.
The title of the draft before him now was four bold characters: [Original Sin Project].
The goal was to use his magical aptitude and the scientific knowledge he had acquired to create fully autonomous, evolving mechanical lifeforms.
"The knowledge and technology I currently possess include the clockwork tech I've learned through study, the alchemical tech shared by Singed from another timeline, and the Hextech gifted to me by Mel from a future timeline."
"To create my own 'Blitzcrank,' I need to integrate these technologies seamlessly while breaking through the current technological singularity to achieve a leap forward."
"Technological advancement requires ingenuity and talent—" Link closed his eyes, letting the knowledge and scientific principles he had accumulated since his arrival in this world swirl and collide in his mind, sparking flashes of inspiration.
As these sparks of inspiration intertwined, Link suddenly opened his eyes, projecting his thoughts onto the draft and transforming his ideas into a detailed plan.
"Using clockwork tech as the skeleton and flesh, alchemical tech as the blood, Hextech as the heart, and my magical aptitude to imbue it with a soul—"
Link continued to jot down his thoughts, but then he paused.
"But if it's just this, even if I succeed, it won't break through the current technological singularity. At best, it'll just be another combat-oriented mechanical construct."
"It needs something more unique!" Link frowned, deep in thought. Suddenly, an idea struck him. "That's it—it needs a unique talent!"
"But to achieve that, with the current technology..." Link's mind turned to the wild rune he had sealed away in his attachments. "If I can integrate the wild rune into the construct..."
Link's eyes widened as he re-examined his plan.
"Using clockwork tech as the skeleton and flesh, alchemical tech as the blood, Hextech as the heart, my magical aptitude to imbue it with a soul, and the wild rune as its talent."
Link trembled with excitement. "This way, I can create something that surpasses the current technological singularity, providing the necessary force for my plans... No, not just a construct—my firstborn!!"
"But to achieve this, I need a way to control the rune."
"How do I do that?"
Link crossed his arms, deep in thought.
"Not only do I need to control the rune, but I also need to integrate it into my firstborn, making the wild rune a gift and talent bestowed upon it."
"The Hextech knowledge shared by Mel from the future timeline doesn't include anything about controlling wild runes. In the original storyline, Ekko and Heimerdinger were able to manifest runes in another timeline with the help of that timeline's Jinx, and even then, they only proposed reversing the acceleration rune."
"Trying to create a system for controlling wild runes based on these fragments is almost impossible. But—" Link stared at his dimensional mailbox. "I've got cheats!"
"I hope my patrons can lend me a hand!"
Link opened his inbox and began sending out emails one by one.
Soon, replies started coming in.
**[Dear Link, I'm sorry I can't help you.
If you need wealth or resources, the Kiramman family can provide whatever you need. But unfortunately, we don't possess the technology you're looking for.]**
Link clicked his tongue as he read the reply from Cassandra Kiramman of another timeline.
"Expected, but still disappointing."
"Speaking of which, in Cassandra's timeline, Caitlyn is missing. She might end up following the same path as before. I should take some time to help her too—maybe design an exoskeleton for her."
After jotting this down in his memo, Link moved on to the next reply.
**[World runes are a forbidden topic. Especially in my timeline, they're doubly forbidden. I'm sorry I can't help you.
My focus is entirely on alchemical tech. If you need help with that, feel free to ask.]**
"Singed from another timeline can't help either," Link muttered, shaking his head.
He quickly wrote a reply and moved on to the next message, this one from Mel of the future timeline.
**[I've heard of the wild rune from Jayce.
But after the war, both Jayce and Hextech vanished without a trace. The only help I can offer is the knowledge and data on Hextech that I've preserved.
I'm sorry I can't be of more assistance.]**
"Mel from the future timeline can't help either," Link sighed, feeling a wave of frustration. But he quickly suppressed it, forcing himself to stay calm. "She's already given me so much. The knowledge and data on Hextech are priceless!"
"I'll design an exoskeleton for her too, to aid her journey in Noxus."
Finally, Link turned to the last reply—this one from Ezreal.
Taking a deep breath, Link opened the message.
**[Hah, you arrogant mage finally remember me?
But sorry, even the greatest explorer in Runeterra doesn't have what you're looking for.
From my research, 'runes' are one of the most taboo topics in history.
But I can send you my autographed photo collection, along with a jar of my personally endorsed hair wax.
It's a steal!
If you want it, trade me for information on that lady.]**
Link's eye twitched as he read the message. "That little brat! I'll deal with him sooner or later."
Closing the message, Link slumped onto his workbench, still deep in thought.
"None of my patrons can help me. Does that mean the Original Sin Project has to be put on hold?"
"No, it can't!"
Link slammed his hand on the table, his eyes blazing with determination.
"I have to create Original Sin! Not only will it provide the strength needed for my plans, but it'll also become the foundation for my expansion. Runeterra isn't just about Piltover and Zaun—there's a whole world out there. Without proper preparation, the Bluebird Mercantile plan with Janna can't be executed."
"But none of my current patrons can help me. Does that mean I have to... Wait!" Link suddenly opened his dimensional mailbox and began scrolling through his inbox.
"My current patrons can't help, but I still have one more—my number one patron!"
Link's eyes landed on the very first reply he had received, the one from the Nameless Traveler.
It was this patron who had given him his first support, the foundation that allowed him to survive and thrive in this world. Without the gifts from this patron, he wouldn't have come this far.
After some thought, Link opened the Nameless Traveler's original message and began composing a new letter.
**[Dear Nameless Traveler,
I apologize for the lack of communication.
But I've never forgotten your request—to change the fate of Piltover and Zaun.
Currently, Piltover is stabilizing. I've persuaded Ambessa, secured the loyalty of Mel and Salo, and placed them in control of the Council. I'm also working on reforming the Council.
However, the great families of Piltover are creating unnecessary obstacles to these reforms. I'm seeking a solution.
Zaun remains chaotic, but I have a plan.
I've sponsored Ekko and his Firelights, helping them shelter civilians and unite the people.
I've also resolved Jinx's inner turmoil, turning her into a force that can end Zaun's chaos.
But to truly change the current predicament of the twin cities, I still lack the decisive power and status needed.
Power is necessary for revolution, and status is the foundation for reform.
I'm still unsure how to gain status, but I have a clear plan for power.
That is to use clockwork tech, alchemical tech, and Hextech as the foundation, combined with my magical aptitude and the rune I've sealed away, to create a new mechanical lifeform.
Unfortunately, I lack the knowledge and technology to utilize the rune.
I hope you can provide some assistance.
Sincerely,
Link Star, who is always striving for the twin cities.]**
After carefully editing and reviewing the letter multiple times, Link hit send and waited anxiously.
Would the Nameless Traveler provide the help he needed?
Within a minute or two, his mailbox buzzed, indicating a new reply.
Link's eyes lit up as he opened the message.
[Additional rewards have been sent. Keep up the good work.]
The attachments began to flash, and Link eagerly opened them.
[You have obtained the Möbius Drive Blueprint and the Encyclopedia of Runic Equations.]
As he held the blueprint and the thick tome in his hands, Link took a deep breath.
"As expected of my number one patron. You're the best!"
