"It's... beautiful!"

Link Star gazed at the primal crystal in his hand, his voice filled with awe.

The crystal was no larger than a fist, yet it radiated a powerful energy that even Janna, the spirit of the wind, couldn't ignore.

"The mana contained within this crystal is immense!" Janna exclaimed, her voice tinged with surprise. Link quickly stashed the crystal into his inventory. "We'll study it later. For now, let's restore this place to how it was and get out of here."

Link commanded the coffin to close itself, then withdrew his mana. After placing the coffin back into the grave, he began shoveling dirt to cover it.

But just as he was about to finish, Janna's voice rang out in warning. "Link! Someone's coming!"

"What?"

Link looked up, his eyes widening as a brilliant blue light streaked across the sky, closing in on him at an alarming speed.

Recognizing the light, Link shoved the shovel into his inventory and activated his spider-like helmet and exoskeleton. Without a second thought, he turned and bolted.

"Damn it! Vander was supposed to distract her!"

Confused but not daring to hesitate, Link pushed his exoskeleton to its limits. Enhanced by shimmer, his body moved like a blur as he sprinted away. Janna, now a gust of wind, wrapped around him, lending him her speed.

But no matter how fast Link was, Camille was faster.

"And where do you think you're going?"

A cold, metallic voice echoed in his ears, sending a chill down his spine. Link glanced up and saw a blue light flickering above him, like a star in the night sky.

In an instant, an invisible force field descended, trapping him in place. His movements slowed to a crawl, as if he were stuck in quicksand.

Link's heart sank.

Camille's ultimate ability—Hextech Ultimatum.

"Link, dodge!" Janna's voice screamed in his ear, but Link could only grimace. If he could dodge, he would've done so already.

There was no time to think. Instinctively, Link crossed his arms above his head and shouted, "Janna, shield me!"

The wind around him condensed, forming a protective barrier that wrapped around his body like an invisible, weightless armor.

Just as the shield formed, a blinding blue light filled his vision.

A leg blade descended from above, striking the ground with explosive force. Dirt, grass, and rocks flew in all directions as the force field around Link intensified, pinning him in place.

Crystals sprouted from the ground, forming walls over ten meters high, trapping him completely.

This was the Hextech Ultimatum—a prison of force, suppression, and inescapable confinement.

Link blinked rapidly, tears streaming down his face as the intense light nearly blinded him. Even with the shimmer enhancing his vision, his eyes burned with pain.

"Well, hello there," a smooth, aristocratic voice greeted him. Camille stepped forward, her movements calm and deliberate. She placed a hand on her hip and tilted her head. "You're quite the uninvited guest, aren't you?"

"I'm not exactly having a great time right now," Link muttered, struggling to stay upright. The force field pressing down on him was far more oppressive than he'd imagined. Even with his exoskeleton, he felt like his organs were being crushed.

This was the power of one of Piltover's top enforcers.

"Hmph, quite the sharp tongue," Camille chuckled, circling Link as she examined his exoskeleton and helmet. "This technology... I've never seen anything like it. Truly remarkable craftsmanship."

"I'd love to thank you for the compliment, but given the circumstances, I doubt it'll help me much," Link replied, buying time as his mind raced for a way out.

"For you, it's already too late. But for me..." Camille paused, a sly smile playing on her lips. "I always have time for tea."

"But before that," she continued, her voice turning icy, "hand over what you stole. I can sense its presence. Don't even think about lying to me. You won't like the consequences."

Link's eyes widened. He cursed under his breath.

In the original lore, Camille's power was derived from the primal crystals passed down through the generations of the Brackern, like Skarner. The crystals were connected in ways ordinary people couldn't perceive, which was how Skarner tracked them.

Apparently, that detail had carried over into this world, and Camille had inherited the ability.

"Fine," Link relented, pulling out the primal crystal. Camille's eyes flickered with surprise, but she quickly masked it and took the crystal from him.

"You took this from my ancestor's coffin?" she asked, her tone curious. "Even I didn't know it was there. How did you?"

Link's mind raced.

Camille's curiosity meant there was still room for negotiation. But he needed a convincing explanation—something that would satisfy a woman who had lived for nearly a century and seen it all.

But where was the key to his escape?

As he thought, Link spoke, "I'll answer that, but first, I have a question. I had a solid plan. How did you find me?"

"Oh, sweet child," Camille laughed softly. "In my sixty-plus years, I've weathered more storms than you've eaten meals. Your plan was clever, but the Ferros family is not without its countermeasures. The figure you saw earlier was merely my decoy—a little trick I picked up from Ionia. Simple, yet effective."

Link's confusion was cleared, but he didn't relax.

To escape this situation, he needed to address the root of the problem.

Why had he come to the Ferros estate to rob a grave?

For his Original Sin Project.

But how had he known that Alicia Ferros' coffin contained the primal crystal he needed?

Because of an anonymous letter.

What had the letter said?

"A clever and capable child who shows courage deserves a reward."

And what had been attached to the letter?

Detailed schematics of Alicia's coffin and a glass bead.

Now, the question was: Was the anonymous sender friend or foe?

If they were a friend, they wouldn't have led him into a death trap.

If they were an enemy, why provide such detailed information?

The answer lay in the letter itself.

"Show courage and be rewarded."

The reward...

The bead!

Link's eyes lit up. The key to his escape had been in his hands all along.

The sender had been confident he could survive this ordeal, which was why they'd included the bead with the schematics. They'd even mentioned a reward.

Following this logic, the sender's true identity was likely a future version of Camille who had formed an alliance with him.

If that were true, then he might just make it out of this alive.

As this realization dawned on him, Camille's voice interrupted his thoughts.

"Enough stalling. Tell me, how did you know about the crystal in my ancestor's coffin?"

Link swallowed hard, then said, "Perhaps this will answer your question."

He pulled the glass bead from his inventory and handed it to Camille.

Her brow arched as she took the bead, turning it over in her hands. For a moment, she stood silently, her back to Link as she examined it.

"Link, what did you give her?" Janna whispered.

"The key to our escape," Link replied, his voice steady.

"You're sure?"

"Yes."

After what felt like an eternity, Camille turned back to Link. "Remove your helmet."

Link slowly raised his hands and took off the helmet, revealing his face.

"Your name."

"Link Star."

Camille nodded, and Link felt the force field around him weaken. The crystalline walls of the Hextech Ultimatum began to dissolve.

"You want this?" Camille held up the primal crystal, offering it to Link. He hesitated, then nodded. "Yes. My research requires it."

"Child, you should know that only one kind of person is allowed to possess a primal crystal," Camille said, her gaze fixed on the crystal. "A core member of the Ferros family."

"If you want it, you'll have to agree to my terms."

"What terms?" Link asked, already suspecting the answer.

"Become a Ferros agent. Serve the next head of the family. Dedicate yourself entirely to the Ferros legacy."

"And what do I get in return?"

Link thought of the Ferros family motto and decided to negotiate. "If all I get is a primal crystal, you're underestimating my value."

Camille smiled. "What do you want?"

"Hextech crystals and petricite."

"The family has amassed a considerable stockpile over the past century. It's yours to use."

"Access to the Ferros family's resources and manpower?"

"At your disposal."

"What if I want to reform the Piltover Council and start a revolution in Zaun?"

"The Ferros family will clear every obstacle in your path."

Link exhaled deeply. "Then tell me how to become a core member of the Ferros family."

Camille's smile widened. "Become my son."

"What?!" Link's eyes widened in shock. Even Janna seemed stunned. "Me? Your son?"

"That's correct."

"Can't I be your brother or something?"

"I'm afraid not, dear. I already have a brother, and he holds a special place in my heart. Besides, you're far too young to be my brother."

"What about a marriage alliance?" Link blurted out, but Camille shook her head. "That would still create unnecessary distance, don't you think?"

"So, becoming my adopted son is your only option."

Link's mind went blank. His mouth opened, but no words came out.

What had he been thinking earlier?

Oh, right. He'd thought handing over the bead would secure his escape.

But this? This was way more than he'd bargained for.

Now he had a mom?!
