Ionian Merchant Ship, Cabin

"Horned meanie, Neeko no like you!"

Neeko, her tail coiled into a ball, hugged her colorful arms and glared angrily at the Vastaya sailor, Krett. Krett sighed and ruffled Neeko's blue-purple hair.

"Don't go outside randomly. We Vastaya aren't as free here as we are in our homeland, especially in Bilgewater, a true lawless land."

"Hmph!"

Neeko turned her head away, her cheeks puffed out in anger.

Seeing her like this, Krett shook his head helplessly.

Although Neeko was unhappy with his actions, he was only looking out for her. If she were to be noticed by the people of Bilgewater, she would truly be in danger.

So, for her own good, it was best to keep her in the cabin for now. Once they sold their goods in Ixtal, he would take her back to the First Lands, where she would be properly cared for.

"Stay in the cabin and don't run around, or I won't give you any cheese bread!"

"No! Neeko loves cheese bread!"

"Then stay here quietly and don't go anywhere!"

Neeko glared at Krett, her body twisting and transforming into his likeness. She stuck out her tongue at him.

"Such an enviable talent!"

Krett looked at the transformed Neeko, his expression complex.

Vastaya were born with an affinity for wild magic. If the environment lacked sufficient wild magic, even reproducing would become a problem.

Because of this, all Vastaya possessed some degree of wild magic.

But Krett had never seen a fellow Vastaya with talent as strong as Neeko's. It was almost unfair.

Resolving to keep a close eye on Neeko, Krett decided to make sure she didn't wander off and attract trouble.

Krett left the cabin. He had a lot of work to do and couldn't waste too much time on Neeko, even though he had initially saved her because all Vastaya shared a common ancestor—the Vastayashai'rei.

As for his current actions, they were because Krett had grown fond of this innocent girl during their time together.

Seeing her reminded him of his own carefree childhood and his family back home.

Her purity made him want to protect her instinctively.

"Horned meanie, you deserve to eat grass!"

Neeko, still sulking, climbed into her hammock, sitting cross-legged with her tail curled up limply.

"Neeko hungry!"

She patted her belly and lay down in the hammock, the petals and stamens on her head drooping slightly.

The cabin window, left slightly ajar for ventilation, suddenly let in a sweet, enticing aroma—rich with cream and honey.

Neeko's tail perked up instantly, and the stamens on her head regained their glow.

"Yummy smell!"

Neeko turned toward the window, her cute little nose twitching. But she quickly glanced at the closed cabin door, afraid Krett might catch her off guard.

Like a little thief, she carefully climbed down from the hammock and tiptoed to the window, lifting her head to sniff the delicious scent.

The sweet, rich aroma mixed with the damp, hot sea breeze, becoming even more intense and tantalizing.

"Smells so good... so yummy!"

Neeko pushed the window open and squeezed through like a gecko, completely forgetting Krett's warnings.

Once outside, she climbed up the ship's hull, following the scent. She looked up toward the air harbor above.

Krett had repeatedly warned her not to go there, but the source of the smell was coming from that direction.

Her nose twitching, Neeko clung to the ship's hull with one hand and one foot, peering toward the air harbor. Her mouth opened slightly, a drop of drool glistening.

"So sweet... so yummy..."

Neeko swallowed hard and continued climbing, cautiously glancing at Krett, who was busy carrying a crate into the cabin.

Seeing that Krett was occupied, Neeko let go of the ship's railing and transformed into a bird, soaring on the sea breeze as she followed the scent upward.

Once she reached the air harbor, Neeko circled in the air, her bird eyes searching for the source of the aroma.

After a few loops, she found it.

The smell was coming from a strange ship suspended in mid-air. The back half of the ship had an open window, and the delicious scent wafted out from inside.

Neeko flew closer and transformed back into her original form.

She peeked over the windowsill, and her vertical pupils nearly turned round at what she saw.

Cheesecake!

So much cheesecake, piled high on a table covered with a tablecloth. The sweet, warm aroma was blown toward her by a strange metal contraption.

Neeko swallowed hard. "So much yummy food..."

"Neeko wanna eat..." She stuck her head through the window, looking around. Seeing no one inside, she couldn't resist the temptation and climbed in, heading straight for the table.

"Cheesecake... ouch, hot!" The greedy little girl grabbed two pieces of cake and stuffed them into her mouth. The soft, sweet cake filled her mouth with warmth, making her gasp for air.

"Cheesecake... so yummy!" Neeko felt her eyes grow warm. Was this what it meant to be moved to tears?

She loved cheesecake so much!

She wanted to be with cheesecake forever, never apart!

As Neeko reveled in the sweetness of the cheesecake, she didn't notice the window silently closing and locking behind her.

Once the window was fully shut, a figure appeared at the doorway, watching her with interest.

Sensing a stranger's gaze, Neeko lifted her cream-covered face and looked at Link, who stood at the door playing with a remote control.

Link had installed a small mechanism on the window that could open and close it with the remote. It had only taken him a few minutes.

The window had closed because Link had pressed the remote.

"Oh no, no-tail man found Neeko!"

Neeko turned to run but found the window she had entered through now tightly shut.

With no way out and her path blocked, Neeko placed her hands in front of her, stood on her tiptoes, raised her tail high, and hunched her back slightly, her eyes fierce.

Neeko: "(Φ皿Φ)"

Neeko opened her mouth and let out a fierce roar. Link shook his head helplessly and walked toward the oven, ignoring Neeko's nervous stare. Neeko hadn't forgotten Krett's warnings.

Many people coveted Vastaya like her.

"No-tail man, move out of Neeko's way, or Neeko will hit you!"

Neeko raised her tiny fist threateningly, but her eyes followed Link as he approached the oven. Link opened the oven and took out a tray of fragrant cheesecake. There were many more like it inside.

"The door is over there. No one's stopping you."

"But before you go, are you sure you don't want another piece of cheesecake?"

Link placed the cheesecake on the table. Neeko's fierce expression softened at the sight of the cake, though she still eyed Link suspiciously.

"Cheesecake?!" Neeko's fierce look vanished, replaced by curiosity. "Really for Neeko?"

"Neeko smart! Won't fall for no-tail man's tricks!"

"It's all yours. There's more in the oven if you're still hungry."

Link stood by the door, arms crossed, smiling at Neeko.

Neeko looked at the cheesecake, then at Link, then at the cheesecake, then at Link, then at the cheesecake... cheesecake... cheesecake...

Neeko: "ԅ(¯﹃¯ԅ)"
