chapter 6:time and location

Chapter 6

Lin Yue lay on her bed, her pale face illuminated by the soft light filtering through the room. She had just finished her meal and was propped up by soft pillows. Her breaths were steady but tired, a result of the demanding days she had endured.

Li Wei sat by her side, his calloused hand resting lightly on hers. His posture was relaxed, but his sharp gaze lingered on her face, scanning for any signs of discomfort.

"You should rest more," he said quietly, his deep voice breaking the peaceful silence.

Lin Yue smiled faintly, her eyes meeting his. "I'm resting. You're the one who looks like you're ready to go to war."

Li Wei's lips twitched at her teasing, but he didn't reply immediately. Instead, he reached out to adjust her blanket. "It's hard not to worry when you've been through so much."

Her smile softened, and she squeezed his hand. "We're safe here. That's what matters."

They sat in comfortable silence for a moment before Li Wei glanced out the window, where the faint glow of the mist forest lingered beneath the moonlight. "You said this place is still tied to the mist forest. What does that mean?"

Lin Yue shifted slightly, her voice calm as she explained. "The residential area of this space mirrors the time outside. Right now, we're still in the mist forest. Unless we choose to move, we'll remain here."

Li Wei frowned. "So, if danger finds us in the mist forest, it could find us here too?"

Lin Yue shook her head. "No, that's impossible. Only I can bring someone into this space. It's hidden unless I choose otherwise. And even then, only the owner of the space can decide to move its location."

Li Wei's furrowed brow relaxed slightly, but his concern remained evident. "So we're safe for now?"

She chuckled softly. "Yes, for now. But I need to finish my confinement first. After that, I can go outside and decide where we'll go next."

Li Wei's expression hardened. "You're not going out there alone."

Her eyes sparkled with amusement. "I never planned to. But I need time, Li Wei. The children need time. Once I'm stronger, we'll face the outside together."

He leaned back, his shoulders relaxing slightly, though his resolve remained. "Then I'll follow you. Wherever you go, I'll be there."

Lin Yue's gaze softened, and she reached out to touch his cheek, her voice teasing. "I know."

Li Wei cleared his throat and stood. "I'll put the kids to bed."

Her lips curved into a faint smile. "Good night," she said, her voice tinged with amusement.

As Li Wei left the room, Lin Yue closed her eyes, the faint hum of the space soothing her. For the first time in a long while, she felt a glimmer of peace.
