One evening, as the warm glow of the living room lamp bathed the space in soft light, Ria leaned against Arun on the couch. The remnants of dinner sat forgotten on the table. She rested her head on his shoulder, unusually quiet, her thoughts a million miles away.
Arun noticed. He always did. Sliding his hand into hers, he gave it a gentle squeeze.
"Hey," he murmured, tilting his head to look at her. "What's going on in that beautiful mind of yours?"
Ria blinked, her lips curving into a hesitant smile. "You always know when something's up, don't you?"
He chuckled softly, his fingers tracing small circles on her hand. "Call it a sixth sense. Spill it, Ria. You're worrying me."
She took a deep breath, pulling herself upright to face him. Her eyes shimmered with an emotion Arun couldn't quite place. "There's something I need to tell you."
Concern flickered across Arun's face as he straightened up. "Are you okay? You're not… hurt or anything, right?"
Ria shook her head quickly, her smile growing wider. "I'm more than okay." She reached behind her, fumbling for a moment before producing a small envelope. She held it out to him, her heart pounding. "Here. Open this."
Arun's eyebrows knitted in confusion, but he took the envelope, curiosity evident in his every move. As he pulled out the card inside, his eyes scanned the words. Then they widened, his breath catching in his throat.
"We're expecting!" the card declared in bold letters. Below it, a tiny ultrasound picture was tucked into the corner.
"Wait… what?" Arun stammered, his voice teetering between shock and disbelief. "Ria, are you serious?"
Tears glistened in her eyes as she nodded. "Yes, Arun. We're going to be parents."
For a moment, Arun froze, the enormity of her words sinking in. Then, as if a dam had burst, he broke into the brightest grin she'd ever seen. Without hesitation, he pulled her into his arms, holding her close.
"This… this is incredible," he whispered, his voice thick with emotion. He pulled back slightly to look into her eyes. "I can't believe it. We're having a baby."
Ria laughed, her tears spilling over as she held him tighter. "We are, Arun. You're going to be an amazing dad."
He shook his head, still grinning like a man who'd just won the lottery. "And you're going to be the most incredible mom."
For the rest of the night, they sat together, dreaming aloud about the future. Names were discussed, nursery ideas floated, and plans made—all while their hearts swelled with the promise of the tiny life they had created together. It was the beginning of a new chapter, one they both knew would redefine everything.
