It was really ironic, had he gotten this far just to die this fast ?
No, his brain went into overdrive to escape this impossible situation, luckily the being seeemd as if they wanted to toy with him, something it probably wouldn't have much trouble with seeing that whatever it had done just now had not been movement, no, it had been teleportation, Cades had felt the warp, he had felt how space itself had bowed to the monster, at least the space in that incredibly small portion of existence, it was scary, normally one bows to the space and is moved somewhere, but here, this monster dominated that part of space to move this fast, resulting in it not expending any mana as far as he could tell.
And now Manug was gone, somewhere else, suddenly having vanished as soon as the mosnter was behind them, perhaps already dead, perhaps fighting something else and simply having been forced away by the monster in some, to him, unknown way.
But it was really not taking it seriously, as such he should be able to deflect it.. right?
He did everything he could, he created as many shields as he could, though he failed at that due to the simple fact that this entire region was now covered in the black steam that contained countless types of mana all mashed together, enough to kill a normal person if they somehow managed to come here, to this godforsaken dimension, this godforsaken realm, and then, with abysmal luck, to this island where even a being like that had fallen.
After, no, while that was failing he took a step to the side, another, he almost tripped, his face not moving, still staring at the potential cause of his death, the cause that moved faster than Cades could've ever imagined himself to be able to evade one day, but he might be succeeding right now, because the monster was just playing, it didn't take him seriously, it didn't even really have to as previously mentioned and now shown to be quite obvious.
But either way, he also tried to use his sword, that was somehow not even scratched to try and stop it, igniting the lightning within it to destroy it, not that that weak of a lightning would've actually done much to save him, no, he was just doing anything he could think off, everything that he had been doing in his recent fights, which was also the main reason as to why he had used the shields despite him knowing for a fact that they would not work.
And as Cades was ready to meet the so-called gods in heaven, if that even existed, he felt nothing, something that he himself could not believe, he had evaded, but that wasn't it, the monster hadn't even tried to really hit him, it had simply stopped itself and waited a bit for the slow snail that it saw Cades as to move out of the way, it had waited for a thousandth of a second, but that was already enough with everything that Cades had tried to somehow evade the blade, and perhaps it was actually not involved in it too much.
It itself didn't really think so, but the weapon would've only grazed Cades hadn't it been for his speed that seemed to even surpass his current state, to even surpass the blades movement, had it not been for the fact that the blade had been overextended, had it not been for the fact that the monster had made the way of the blade longer than it would've had to have been.
Either way, Cades had managed to evade to his right side, the opposite of the side on which the monster was stabbing at, his right lung as far as he could tell, if the lung was even a part of this species, who knew, maybe there lived a clown inside of him, but either way, he evaded and was now a whole three steps away from the where the monster had stabbed into the ground after he had luckily managed to evade the devastating stab of the weird spear-like sword hybrid.
After he realized this, perhaps a fraction of a second too late, he instantly began moving once more, deciding that running was useless, and if it truly was then he should at least fight back so that he would perhaps be proud of himself and not become one of the countless screams, but perhaps one of those that fought to the end, one of those screams that he had now began hearing, one of the screams filled with battle, one of the screams of battle calling for countless to attack, he would however remain silent, he would fight, but most likely, with Manug having vanished to somewhere, he would fight alone.
He slashed at the monster with his sword, and it hit, but it barely did anything, the monster hadn't defended at all, and Cades soon knew why as he felt how the wood was regenerating around the blade itself, with him barely being able to get it out before the blade that he had found on the floor of the first temple he had entered was permanently lost to the terrifying monster.
But just when he got it out and took a step back due to the impact and the fact that he had to pull as fast and strong as he could to get the blade out one of the two tails of the monster extended and slapped him square across the stomach, punching him about fifty feet backwards, with a slight edge to the left, causing him to collide with a puppet that had appeared out of nowhere, one that was destroyed due to the impact of the collision, just as one could expect from the power of the monster.
Cades barely had time to breathe before it once again appeared, warping space itself, bending it, to appear right in front of him, the spear in hand but not raised, it's lightless maw formed into a kind of grimace that Cades could never again tell off, or even know, he was not in a good shape, and he was barely able to raise his sword before the tail once more began moving towards him, now a shining, wooden spike at the end.
