"Vallerie?"
"We've got a meeting scheduled later. Let's discuss then. Goodbye."
"Sure, um... I'll definitely return home today and prepare some chicken soup for you."
If it weren't for his distinctive voice, I might have thought someone else was using Patrick's phone. He'd never cooked for me before, except when Samuel requested it.
I recall once asking for his chicken soup. His response was, "Can't you prepare it yourself?"
"But I prefer your cooking," I said with a pout. He accused me of being insincere and departed.
Now he was offering to make soup, but I felt no excitement. I simply replied, "A coworker is hosting a housewarming and has invited us for dinner."
"Coworker? Male or female?"
I laughed to myself. Previously, to console Samuel, he'd accompanied her to the West Coast for a few days, sparking a major argument between us.
