At our child's graduation celebration, they mistakenly thought I was playing a cruel prank.

Everyone was convinced of this.

"Have you lost your mind? It's our daughter's graduation party, and you bring an urn to jinx her? What kind of mother are you?" Aiden shouted at me.

Friends and family joined in the accusation.

Lydia's complexion drained. "Clare, are you unhappy with the graduation feast I organized, or with me personally? Bringing an urn here, are you trying to provoke me to death?"

Aiden furiously grabbed my arm. "Where's our daughter?"

"I've already told you, she's right here," I replied, indicating the urn.

"This is Kathy."

Aiden struck me in a rage.

"Haven't you done enough?"

Lydia stepped in, speaking softly. "Clare, whatever issues you have with my son, don't argue today. Show some respect and stop this commotion."

I began to weep uncontrollably. "Mom, this truly is Kathy."
