As expected, Mrs. Yates had already descended the stairs and was approaching our vehicle. I could only brace myself and accompany Simon.
"Mom, I'd like you to meet Lola."
"Good day, Mrs. Yates. My name is Lola White!"
I swiftly offered a courteous greeting and presented the gifts I had brought.
Mrs. Yates received the gifts with a smile, but her eyes remained locked on me.
Even after we entered the house, Mrs. Yates continued to observe me intently.
Subsequently, she expressed a desire to take me to the upstairs study.
Feeling slightly uneasy, I instinctively glanced at Simon for reassurance.
However, Mrs. Yates grasped my hand, saying, "There's no need to worry, Lola. Let's go upstairs for a private conversation."
She then turned to Simon and joked, "Don't fret. I won't harm your wife."
My cheeks flushed immediately, "Mrs. Yates..."
Mrs. Yates appeared to be in exceptionally high spirits and maintained her grip on my hand.
