Chapter 7 - Help me

Understanding Molly's mistrust, Seraphina chose to fulfill her demand. Besides, she needed Molly on her side, and these constant challenges were only hindering her progress in this world. But without her magic, proving her story was true would be difficult. Then, she glanced down at Farlow, her hippogriff. Sure, he had transformed into a silly-looking canine, but he still held magic of his own. Yes, this could work. She reached out to him telepathically.

"Helios, I'm going to need your help to convince Molly who we are."

"I am ever your servant, my lady," Farlow replied.

Seraphina grinned as she set him down on the floor. "Molly, watch Farlow. I will ask him to do things, and he will do them without my ever saying them out loud."

Molly leaned forward, shifting her gaze between Seraphina and Farlow. "Oh? And how do you plan to do that?"

"We have a telepathic connection. Unless that is something you also have here in this world?"

Molly appeared to be on the verge of laughter and shook her head. "No, that is definitely not a thing here."

Despite her irritation at Molly's reaction, Seraphina nodded and continued. "Farlow," she instructed in her mind, "turn in a circle."

Farlow turned, and Seraphina peeped at Molly, not reacting. "Farlow, stand on your hind legs." Farlow obeyed, and Seraphina continued giving him commands with her mind. He spun, rolled, ran in a circle around them, and even did a backflip. Molly let out a little squeal of delight and clapped her hands. In Seraphina's mind, Farlow sighed.

"Seraphina, this is more than humiliating. I should not have to perform for some human's entertainment."

"I know," Seraphina thought back. Then she turned to Molly, sat back in her chair, and folded her arms. "Well, is that enough proof for you?"

Molly's smile faded, and she shrugged. "It was pretty cute, but what's so special about using hand signals to train a dog?"

Andromeda's mouth flew open. "You insult me. I did not use hand signals. I spoke to him in my mind, and he obeyed my commands. This is not about a beast being trained. I told you, he is my familiar. He wants to prove this to you just as much as I do."

"Oh, so your dog has ambitions beyond sniffing butts and lifting his leg?" Molly retorted

Farlow gasped in horror, and Seraphina worried he would take a chunk out of Molly's ankles. She shook her head. "Fine, you don't believe it. Let's try something else." She turned back to Farlow and apologized for Molly's insults, then asked, "Run into the girl's bedroom. Find something for me, but do not bring it out. Just describe it."

Farlow agreed to the task and ran off to the bedroom.

"Wait! Where is he going?" Molly sat up straighter and glared in the direction Helios went. "If he chews any of my slippers, he's banned from this apartment!"

"Relax. He's only doing what I asked. To prove me right."

The two women stared at each other silently as Farlow searched through Molly's room. Less than a minute later, Farlow's voice popped into Seraphina's mind. "Okay, I've found something, but I have to admit I was tempted to give in to her stereotype of me."

"Just tell me what you found," thought to him.

"Some papers strewn under her bed," Farlow described. He explained that the papers appeared to be sketches of a young girl with yellow hair and big blue eyes, wearing a short white and blue dress with a red bow. Farlow believed the words on the page were the girl's name.

Seraphina tilted her head at Bethany before saying, "Who is Sailor Moon?"

Molly's eyes widened as Seraphina continued, "And why do you have so many drawings of her under your bed?"

Molly turned pale and sputtered, "Hey! What— I don't know what you're talking about." She turned her face away just as Seraphina flashed a cruel smirk. "Hmm. I think you do. You're protesting an awful lot. So, you like this Sailor Moon person?

"How could you." Molly's tone was hurt, though Seraphina couldn't understand why. "No one knows about this. I've never said anything. That's . . . well, that's just for me. That's why I didn't tell you."

"Tell Sera, you mean," Seraphina replied, driving her point home.

Farlow came running back into the kitchen then, holding a piece of paper in his teeth. Farlow took it from him carefully and held it up, examining the work. "This is quite good, actually. Molly, you've done a beautiful job with the colors. I'm impressed."

She meant it. Just because she was a warrior didn't mean she couldn't appreciate art in any form. Molly, however, didn't seem to appreciate the compliment. She glared at Seraphina, snatched the paper back, then looked down at Farlow as if rethinking everything she knew.

"So, wait . . . the dog seriously told you about this drawing? That dog saw my art and told you with his mind, psychically or whatever, that I had Sailor Moon fanart under my bed?!"

Seraphina nodded and watched the realization take over Molly's face, hoping the woman didn't pass out. "Oh god, oh god, oh god. You're really not Sera, are you?" Molly stood and began pacing behind her chair. "What the ever-loving—" She stopped abruptly, turning to face Seraphina. "You were telling the truth?"

Seraphina nodded again.

"Holy crap!" Molly collapsed back into her chair, pressed her palms against her face, and began mumbling to herself, eyes closed.

"Did we break the human?" Helios said

Seraphina wasn't sure. She didn't know enough about Molly to determine how much she could handle. Clearly, Molly wouldn't be joining her army, but Seraphina still needed her as a guide in this strange world. There were so many questions to ask and things to learn.

After giving Molly a little longer to get herself together, Seraphina finally said, "Molly?"

Molly popped her head up, locked eyes with Seraphina, then slammed her hands down onto the table before standing again. "This isn't happening!" she declared, walking away.

Seraphina jumped to her feet to follow Molly into the living room. "What am I supposed to do? This can't be real." Molly covered her mouth with her hands and breathed loudly through her fingers. "It just can't be happening."

"But it is, Molly. And you need to get ahold of yourself."

Molly shook her head, her eyes glazed over as if she hadn't heard Seraphina's words. "I should just go see Peyton. Yeah." She started nodding now. "Yeah. I'll go see her, go to my fiancé's house, and then this can just disappear and not be my problem anymore." Hugging herself, she began pacing again.

This was getting out of hand, and it was entirely unacceptable. Seraphina glared at Molly, losing her patience. "So, you're just going to run away? Ignore that your friend is gone?"

Molly froze, spun on her heel, and practically shot daggers from her eyes at Seraphina. "That's right. Where the hell is Sera, Seraphina?! What did you do with my best friend?!" Her chest heaved with how hard she was breathing. Her words might have had a threatening tone, but Seraphina felt not an ounce of fear.

She took a step forward, straightening her shoulders and tapping into the commanding presence she had honed over many years. "Molly, get a hold of yourself. I didn't do anything to your friend. I didn't even know she, or you, existed until I was sent here.

Molly's eyes grew glossy, and she appeared on the verge of tears. Seraphina sighed. The last thing she needed was a sniveling woman. She didn't do comforting, but she also didn't have time for this to drag out. Softening her tone, she said, "Molly, I swear to you, I've done nothing to your friend. I'm as much a victim as you are. That's why I want to go home. Just like I already told you. Do you understand?"

Nodding slowly, Molly seemed to calm down.

"So, will you help me?" Seraphina asked.

Molly was doing some sort of deep breathing, her eyes focused on Seraphina. "Help me, and you'll get your friend back."

As Seraphina waited for her answer, she could hear Farlow in her head. "Is that true? Will her friend really return if we get back home?"

Molly needed reassurance to cooperate, so Seraphina couldn't let her doubts show in her expression. Maintaining eye contact with Molly, a tight smile on her face, she answered Farlow in her mind. "Honestly, Farlow, I don't know, and I don't care. I'll do whatever it takes to get home."
