Precipice

They were surrounded in seconds and before Jamie could blink, they were captured. This was the power of an elite team. A team trained for close-distance fights. Maybe she could fight zombies better than them but fighting humans, she would lose to this team. Jamie looked left and right, Leo was caught by his neck, like a cat, but the neck was his shirt's collar.

Sawyer kept a respectful distance by sitting on his chair and observing their movements. How did he manage to keep his cool persona in such a situation was beyond her!

"Miss, come home!"

The center bodyguard kneeled before the girl and talked in a low voice. He was, Jamie was surprised to see this, talking like the girl was a kid.

"Hmph, I want to roam a few days more."

"Miss, the World outside isn't beautiful, come home, Sir made a water park for you."

Jamie saw the girl's eyes brighten on hearing this. Lucky girl!

"No! I want to go to the Inner City!"

The guy stiffened. Yeah, the girl didn't know about the recent changes.

"Miss, you should be hungry. Madam learned a new recipe for you to try."

The girl's eyes dimmed.

"Why? Tell her to cook for that kid."

The bodyguard was exasperated.

"Miss, Master Brian is waiting for you to come back. He loves you the most."

"Tell them I won't go back!"

This Brian guy should be someone who is probably making things difficult for her. Jamie had read about so many family struggles so she knew that siblings fought for their inheritance and it normally got really ugly.

"Miss!"

Was she not going back? Their whole thing depended on her going back. To her father.

Jamie tried to get closer to her and the man in black who caught her warned her.

"Okay, okay!" She told him and turned towards the girl.

"Girl, we talked, we need to go, right!"

She reluctantly looked at Jamie and Sawyer and nodded.

"I'll go because my friends want me to go. Hmph!"

It was settled. She was taking them to the City Lord's place.

Jamie sat with the girl while Sawyer talked something with the suits. Leo was twitching on his seat near them.

"Don't worry. We are on your side."

"You don't know what the real story is!"

"I feel that I can trust you."

Because the girl was a good person. She was sheltered really well. She grew up rich but she didn't have any bad habits. Near-death experiences make people show their real faces.

"I- My name is Aura!"

"I'm Jamie!"

"My Dad won't agree to what you want. He is a strict guy and he doesn't take any bribes."

She racked her brain and told Jamie seriously.

"Haha, don't worry. Our issue is entirely different."

Jamie was sure that they would have a deal somehow.

The journey was not so good. Aura, kept mumbling at the head bodyguard and Sawyer kept a stoic face. Jamie had to spend time watching everyone's faces. Leo didn't come with them.

Sawyer had decided that Leo was going to stay at their treehouse and he agreed. Jamie dressed herself in her perfect black attire that seemed deadly and meant business. But she didn't know that she looked like someone who was trying to copy the bodyguards. Sawyer wasn't going to tell her, it was way more fun watching the obvious contrast.

Jamie and Sawyer ate their noodles. The looks they got- Jamie wanted to record.

"What's this?"

Aura was curious.

Jamie got another cup and gave her some.

Aura tasted it with confusion evident on her face but then her face changed.

"Wow! I want more."

The bodyguards looked at her and they collectively looked away. Jamie knew they also wanted to eat but this was in Sawyer's plan and she was going to play her part in it.

They traveled for twelve hours and then reached a huge city gate. It was surprising that they didn't meet any zombies.

They stopped before the entrance. Jamie looked around and found snipers. There was a scanning function and only if it accepted, the gate was opened.

Like she had thought, no one could enter without a City Entry Order. It was an identity card and also a protection layer. That made her wonder, she looked at Aura and thought- how did this girl escape?

As the head bodyguard entered his City Entry Order in the system, an officer came out. He inspected the people and had Jamie and Sawyer get temporary permits by feeding their information into the system. The permit was valid for twenty-four hours. It was strict.

The hovercar moved. Jamie always wondered how much technology could change in two hundred years. There were hovercars that worked on solar energy. And they hovered a foot above the ground.

The inner city was worlds away from the outer city. It was like they entered the Fairy Garden from hell. Wow. The view of High-rise buildings greeted them and Jamie saw many hover vehicles moving without interfering with others.

The car moved and they soon arrived at a less populated area. This should be the residence area of officials.

"We are here, Miss!"

Jamie thought that the City Lord would live in a big villa but he lived in a four-storeyed house.

Aura was dragged away and Jamie and Sawyer were taken to the office. Sawyer went inside and Jamie waited for him outside. She wanted to know what was being talked but she had no idea.

Would the City Lord accept Sawyer's proposal?

She felt nervous, sitting alone, with her thoughts and the anxiety surrounding her was about to swallow her whole.

The door opened and Sawyer stepped out.

Was it done? She looked at his face trying to see some reaction that gave her the answer.

"Is it okay?"

She whispered.

"Come in, he wants to talk to you."

Her, why?

She swallowed and steeled herself.

'You are Jamie, you are powerful and you can do what you set your mind on.'

She looked at the open door.

'I'm one step ahead now. Marc, Dana, I'll be before you soon. Wait for me.'

She entered the room.
