The Thornton family appeared considerably less influential when compared to the mighty Wood clan of New York.

In the meantime, Darrell was swamped with work during his New York business trip. His spouse had fled their home and was now seeking a divorce. Furthermore, previously settled business deals were unexpectedly falling through one after another, causing substantial financial losses for the company.

Darrell massaged his aching forehead, feeling as if his skull might burst.

Holly entered, bearing a mug of coffee. She began expertly kneading his shoulders with her slender fingers, and Darrell shut his eyes, allowing some of the tension to dissipate.

"My assistant uncovered the reason," he stated. "It seems the Wood family is behind this. But I'm baffled—I've never had any interactions with them, much less offended them."
