I released a harsh, sarcastic chuckle. "Really now? Have you already forgotten your declaration from earlier? The one where you swore you'd never wed me? I'm sure everyone present heard it clearly."
I faced the audience, who were now eager to take my side.
"Indeed! The young nobleman insulted Miss Savannah terribly!"
"Precisely! He failed to recognize his own betrothed and said such awful things. He doesn't deserve her!"
"We all heard his proclamation of eternal devotion to Jessica. He said it without hesitation!"
Wyatt's cheeks turned scarlet as the crowd's murmurs intensified. Yet, he wasn't ready to concede. He straightened up, his typical smugness returning to his voice as he reached out to me.
"S-Savannah, look at me. Are you truly saying you feel nothing for me? Not even a smidge?"
I didn't waver. In one swift motion, I struck him forcefully across the face.
"You repulse me," I stated frostily. "I want nothing to do with you. I insist our engagement be terminated!"
