Kai's POV
I was awoken abruptly by Malia.
She was in a fouler mood than usual as she barged into my room and drew the curtains open, and rays of sunshine flooded the room.
I have done a pretty good job this past week of keeping to myself. And everyone else has done a pretty good job of leaving me alone.
I would have commented on her rude behavior but today was Tuesday - ten hours until 6:35pm.
Ten hours until I could talk to the only person in the world who seemed to give a finger about me - Joshua.
"Arise and shine, Princess" she said in that annoying high pitched voice that was laced with sarcasm and a hint of disgust. "I have been assigned to you"
"Assigned to me?" I asked and pulled the covers over my head.
"Well" there was a pause "Yeah. Whatever you need, I'm here..to…serve you"
I pulled the covers away from my face and sat upright.
If I'm not mistaken, she just admitted to be assigned to be my maid and last I checked, the only acknowledgement I have gotten from my parents was the occasional grunts when I bump into them in common areas of the mansion.
"You are my maid?" I asked her.
"Unfortunately" she murmured under her breath before turning around with a fake smile to say "Yes"
"Huh. I did not see that coming" I said and relaxed my back against the wall, the blue dress I was wearing was soaked with sweat due to poor air circulation in the little room but watching Malia pretend to be nice was entertaining.
"This is awesome. We are going to have the best time" I said and chuckled.
"If we are done gloating, we need to get you dressed up for breakfast with Alpha Michael and his family"
"They want me there for breakfast. Why?" I asked puzzled.
"I don't know. And I don't care" She blunted out but on second thought, she stopped trying to straighten out my pillow to say "I mean, I'm not sure, Ma'am"
"Is there anything significant happening today?" I asked her.
"The heir is coming home…maybe that's it" She answered.
"The heir?" I was fairly confused.
"The Alpha's son, Caspian" She answered impatiently.
My eyes widened.
I have a brother.
"Where is the dining table or room or whatever it is you call it?" I asked her.
"Just down the hall. Please tell me you are not about to do what I think you are about to do?" Malia had a look about her.
"I want to meet Caspian. Excuse me"
Malia came forward, I saw the way she looked at me like if it was possible, she would literally throw herself at the door to prevent me from walking out but I was a werewolf on a mission and the mission was meet my baby brother
And if this little girl thinks she was going to stop me then I really like to see her try.
I watched as she stepped aside. I placed both of my feet in the white slippers beside my bed and I walked out. I made it to the enormous dining room and met an empty table.
It was either I just missed everyone or the rest of my psychopathic family was not there yet.
I stood by the window and I watched outside.
"Good morning"
It was Dad.
His voice was still as smooth as it was last week when he took time to explain to me how being related to was a bad idea.
And when I turned around, he still looked every bit as handsome as he did last week, just like I am very sure he was still every bit the despicable human being he was last week.
"Dad" I murmured and looked at him.
"We must get you new clothes. I will have my wife make arrangements for you" He pulled out a chair and watched as I made myself comfortable on it. It didn't go unnoticed how he called Akira his wife instead of my mother.
"Where is everyone?" I asked a little nervous.
"Diara is resting up for the gala tomorrow and Akira is…somewhere doing something. It's just me and you today, kid"
I wanted to ask him about Caspian but he seemed to have something else to say.
"Why am I here? Did you…" my voice trailed off a bit "Did you perhaps want to spend time with me? I mean, I'm not opposed to doing that. I am very open to…spending time with my…Dad"
I was suddenly nervous.
I tried to keep my lips from trembling and I kept my hands clasped together tightly.
"That's not why I sent for you" He answered.
"That's alright. I don't care…really. Spending time is overrated anyway" I answered with a little smile.
And so I crossed my legs and leaned back in my chair and I stared at him like I genuinely did care.
"I have good news" he announced.
Caspian.
My heart leaned in joy. He was back.
I know the chances that he might reject me like his parents were extremely high but there was still a chance that he might surprise me and be my family.
"Good news?" I asked.
"Yes, child" He answered "After a long week of negotiations, I have finally secured a mate for you. You can meet him in a few minutes. We invited him over for breakfast"
"I'm sorry, what?"
My heart pounded like it was out of control and I was beginning to feel the sweat at the nape of my neck.
"I don't…I don't want a mate"
He stood up "Well, we can't have everything. And you don't really have much of a choice. You will marry him or you will get the taste of how awful the world is without my protection"
