The price of not knowing

(Joshua's POV)

The road was a blur.

Rain hammered on the truck roof like a brick as I tried to navigate the road without veering off and killing us.

Ryder laid in the passenger seat, pale and sweating... trying to give me enough reason to crash us on purpose.

"Bet she sounds different now," he said, a cruel smirk twisting his lips. "With him. Bet she screams that fancy Lycan pet name she has for Bronc. Jack Rebel" He drew the name out, mocking. "Louder than she ever screamed for me. Louder than you've dreamt that she will scream for you."

I gripped the steering wheel tighter, knuckles almost white. I didn't react. Didn't look at him. Just stared at the rain-slicked road.

He'd been like this for miles. Needling. Twisting the knife about Kai. About her and Bronc. Trying to make me crack. Trying to share his own bitter hell like I wasn't living mine already.
