Chapter 8: Sebastian Valac and Reina Smith

[3rd POV]

With Valerie giving Morgan the excellent idea of a rating game between herself and the arrogant lord of the Valac family, Morgan had to make the decision of who should take part, should she manage to get the man to agree to the game.

The choice was a bit difficult, mainly because her battle maniac pawn wished to fight, but that was an immediate no, as she didn't have the power to properly defend Valiana from the likes of Zekram Bael or Sirzech's Lucifer, not yet. And the latter would almost certainly come to her with the idea of recruiting the girl for his sisters peerage, and knowing his...love for his sister, it was unlikely he would allow her to say no, not without consequences.

Just as Valiana was a no due to her being a Lucifer, and being the White Dragon Empress, Issei was a no due to being the Red Dragon Empress. And while she was confident that Issei could obliterate most of the rival peerage, she'd rather not leave it up to chance.

Ingvild was an obvious no as she was one of the last Leviathans, and far too powerful to just show off as she was. Just as Kuroka was still wanted, and well known throughout the underworld for what she did to her master. That left only one proper choice, this being Lint Sellzin. Lint had a sacred gear that would give her an edge over the competition, her sacred gear wasn't the most powerful so the other devils shouldn't cause too many issues, and more than anything, she was a decent power level, being High Class (if only barely).

It was more than enough to deal with the man.

Sebastian Valac, the lord of the Valac family, was similar to her in being the last of his family, albeit he had a better situation than her, due to his allying with some other minor houses. More than that, he also had several bastard children that were all up and coming in the family. But, like their father, they were not exactly the best of people.

His peerage (after researching it thoroughly) was comprised of 10 women, all of them being around Middle Class, with his Queen being a rather impressive Low High class, and was a reincarnated human with the sacred gear "Sword Birth" and as far as Morgan knew, was one of the only reincarnated devils with the sacred gear. As the gear itself was rare, and very versatile, but also relied heavily on creativity, as it could create demonic swords that the user wills. While it couldn't create something as powerful as an Excalibur fragment, it could create powerful blades above most others.

The other peerage members were all rather decent, but not nearly as interesting as the girl known as "Reina Smith" , a woman that was (from what she could tell) forcefully reincarnated due to her beauty. As Sebastian had a rather...interesting liking of maids, which led to all of his peerage being maids. Some said it was due to an encounter with the strongest queen, Grayfia Lucifuge, that led to the man's infatuation with maids.

Either way, Morgan was interested.

Her home was large, and while she could take care of it with her magic, she did need some genuine maids. So, upon seeing that his peerage were all trained in being excellent maids and workers, she found yet another reason to challenge the man. That, and she found a rather interesting loophole that her power had allowed, at least, somewhat.

...She could take the peerage of others. By defeating Sebastian, and using a contract that the man signs, she could take his peerage for herself, which would contribute to her fanon maker ability. However, this had a downside, and that was the fact that it counted 5 peerage members as 1 fanon maker usage when stealing members from other peerages in this way. This would give her 2 uses, and 2 more slots for each of them.

Plus, while she would love to recruit solely canon characters, Morgan knew that that was a rather unlikely, and foolish idea. As there were almost certainly tons of unique people out there with all sorts of sacred gears, and this woman, Reina, was one such character. She wouldn't be a part of her main peerage of course, but she'd be a good addition to her family nonetheless, and could help train future knights she recruits, as the woman had far more experience, having been the Queen in Sebastian's Peerage for over 15 years.

Getting the man to agree to a contract that would end in everything he owns becoming hers, would be easy once she offered him her library and herself in return. As she knew enough about devils to know that they were greedy by nature, as was she. And the man wouldn't be able to say no to gaining access to the best library in the 3 factions, as well as a Longinus user, and the most beautiful woman in the Underworld (not that anyone actually knew that).

It was this thought and idea that led to her current situation, as she sat in a private room in a cafe in the nearby city of "Zonare" a small city that was in a nearby families land.

Morgan didn't have to wait for long as she heard the door open, and a man walk in. The second she saw him, her face faulted. He was tall, around 6'0 tall, but he was also rather...large. Dressed with all sorts of expensive looking suit and jewelry. He had an arrogant smirk on his face.

Morgan's eyes traveled to his companion, as she gazed at his Queen, Reina Smith.

The woman was...very attractive, even to Morgan's standards. She was also pretty skilled, that much Morgan could tell just by looking at her. The woman had a maid uniform on as she moved to stand next to her King, as he sat across from Morgan, weighing down the chair as it creaked.

"It's about time you got into contact me, Lady Zagan" Sebastian started, a grin on his face as he shamelessly looked over Morgan's form, Lint stood behind her, a scowl on her face at the expression on the man's face.

"Yes, well, you didn't exactly give me much of an option, did you? With the amount of times you had sent me letters"

"I simply wished to get the point across, Lady Zagan. I am glad that you are acce-" "I'm not accepting your offer, Sebastian Valac" Morgan cut the man off, a frown forming on his face.

Before the man could retort, she continued.

"You see, my adorable knight behind me gave me a rather interesting idea, seeing as you were not only threatening me, the Lord of the Zagan Family. An idea that I believe you'd be rather interested in" Morgan said, inwardly grinning as the scowling man looked at her with interest.

"What could possibly be better than marrying?"

"A rating game" Morgan replied, as she pulled the contract out of nowhere, causing the man to look down to it with a growing frown.

"A rating game? Do you take me for a fool? You have 1 member of your peerage, I have 10! Cease your foolishness-" "If you win the game, you will receive access to the Zagan Library" Morgan cut him off, as the man's eyes shot wide.

The Zagan library was a rather special piece of property. As unlike the usual inheritance, the library could not be accessed by anyone but the Lord of House Zagan, and could NOT be accessed by anyone but those accepted by the Library itself, or granted access by the Lord. And this access was restricted to very specific areas of the library, ones with public knowledge, and none of the things that made the Zagan's so very dangerous.

"...Go on" Sebastian said, as he heard the offer. Even though he was an arrogant man, he was not a fool. Even the likes of Zekram Bael, the Great King, would want access to the Library. As does just about any devil in the Underworld, but none could, not with the wards and defenses in place. Wards that kept even the likes of Sirzech's Lucifer and Ajuka Beelzebub out.

"It's simple. We sign a contract. If you win the game, you will get my hand, my peerage, my land, and access to the Library. The Zagan family will be no more, and will be absorbed into the Valac family. And if I win...I get everything you own, your peerage, your land, your wealth, everything. A fair trade, no? Afterall, a single book in that library is worth more than a family like yours" Morgan explained, the man's face grew red with anger at the comment, but he calmed himself before he blew up.

The idea itself was...incredibly alluring. As he had 10 members, while Morgan had 1 (to his knowledge). She was only Middle class (from what she allowed him to see) and he was high class. Literally every single piece of information he knew of her, pointed towards his victory. It wasn't much of a gamble in his eyes, after all, how could a nobody who didn't inherit her clan trait, possibly beat him? Someone who held his family's clan trait, reinforcement.

Reinforcement - A clan trait belonging to the Valac family. This trait is a rather simple, but effective one. The Valac's demonic energy is incredibly durable in nature, granting the family the ability to "Reinforce" themselves, objects, attacks, and all sorts of things, drastically increasing their durability beyond what they normally would be able to.

The clan trait was rather decent all things considered, but not much in comparison to something like that of the Bael's or the Phenex's, hence their lack of high ranking.

"This is...when would the game take place?" Sebastian asked, going silent in thought.

"I could care less. We could do it one day, one week, or even today, it matters not to me" Morgan replied, as it really didn't. Reina was the only member of the man's peerage that was at all a threat to her or Lint, and that was only a little bit. Lint's sacred gear gave her a clear, and easy advantage over other devils like Sebastian or Reina.

"How does 3 days sound?" Sebastian asked, looking up to Morgan who grinned.

"Sounds fine to me. Now, let's sign this contract and get this part over with" Morgan said, as the man nodded slowly, leaning forward and signing the contract with the blood pen. A pen that extracts the signers blood in order to cement the contract through blood. Morgan inwardly snorted at the fool for not reading the contract thoroughly, as he would have seen the mention of also getting his demonic power and even clan trait, had he done that.

For her contracts were superior to the other devils, and could take even that from them.

Signing the contract, Morgan watched as Sebastian got to his feet "I hope you are ready to get crushed, Lady Zagan. My Queen will notify you of the location of the game in the coming days. Ah, and make sure to ready yourself for after, breaking you will be a real treat" Sebastian lecherously grinned before teleporting off, leaving a fuming Lint behind and a sighing Morgan.

"How dare that bastard talk to you like that, I oughta-" "Relax, my little knight. The man is horrible, but he is also an arrogant little fool. After all, he didn't even read what he was signing up for~" Morgan grinned, as she knew that this would be a good addition to her demonic energy, and more than that, would give her a part of her lands back, and a good bit of wealth.

"...And you're sure we can beat him? That Queen of his felt strong, about as strong as me" Lint asked warily.

"I am. The rest of his peerage is Middle Class at most, and none of them have sacred gears. Him getting Reina was simply luck, nothing more nothing less. And if it really comes down to it, I'll undo the seals and use all my power on him. Afterall, he's but a High Class man, while I am Ultimate Class, and that is without going all out" Morgan calmed Lint, knowing that the knight was just worried for the woman that saved her life.

"Yeah well, it's just hard not to worry about you, Morgan-sama" Lint replied.

"And I am honored that you worry, but trust me, Lint, I am confident in dealing with the man" Morgan smiled, knowing inwardly that the man had absolutely no chance to win this battle, as it would take someone far stronger than him to properly challenge her.

But who was she to complain? Afterall, this was easy power, both politically and demonically.

[3 days later]

Three days had passed since the short, but important meeting, and as he had promised, Morgan was contacted by Reina. The man had gotten them a rather simple arena to fight in, with a flat land so the battle would be frontal and without hiding like rats. This was in his favor, but Morgan didn't complain.

The fight itself was going to be shown to the entire Underworld, because of Sebastian being rather public about the fact that Morgan had put the Library of Zagan on the line. So even the higher ranking nobles like Zekram Bael and the Satans would be watching this fight closely.

The arena was packed full of people who wished to watch, ready to see the battle between the Last Zagan, and the Last Valac. The former who was known for being a weakling, while the latter was known for his interests in maids. The rating game wasn't an official one of course, as those didn't involve betting things like this one did, so it was more similar to the Riser Vs Rias rating game, making it unofficial.

"Hello ladies, gentlemen, and everything in between! I am Zelran and I am your announcer for this evening!" At the mans booming voice over the speakers, the arena cheered loudly, as the man let out a laugh.

"Thank you, thank you! Now, I believe you are all here for one reason, no? Let us get onto the game!"

"In one corner, we have the Lord of the Valac Family, the Last Valac, and a High Class devil. Welcome, Sebastian Valac and his ever growing peerage, including his queen, Reina Smith!"

As his voice boomed out, Sebastian appeared on one side of the arena with a glowing circle under him, a wide arrogant grin on his face.

"In the other corner, we have the current Lord of the Zagan Family! A high class, devil, the last Zagan, and the most mysterious! Welcome Morgan Zagan, and her knight, Lint Sellzin!" Zelran's voice boomed, as more cheers sounded out, but much quieter...until they saw Morgan's appearance.

The cheers shot up in volume as the men saw her beauty. Morgan just chuckled at the reaction, as she glanced around, Lint at her side, not nervous in the least.

"Now, we have some ground rules before we begin, rules agreed upon by the two lords you see before you. First, all holy artifacts are completely banned, as are phoenix tears and any sort of healing artifacts. Sacred gears are completely allowed, regardless of their ability! All clan traits are allowed! This is a battle to surrender or death!" Zelran explained as the arena grew excited, hoping this battle wouldn't be boring as they watched Morgan stretch her figure.

"Lint, I'll be taking care of Reina and Sebastian, but I want you to take care of the rest of them. Remember our training, alright? Take care of the stronger ones first or the healers, and then get the others. Once they're taken care of, I should be done with Sebastian, but if not, leave my battle to me" Morgan said, as Lint nodded, before the two went silent as the announcer continued.

"Are the two peerages ready?" Zelran asked as Sebastian and Morgan nodded.

Seeing this, Zelran grinned in excitement, before his voice boomed out in the arena, the crowd growing silent in anticipation, as around the Underworld, Lord of higher ranking watched closely, as the Lord of the Zagan Family made her formal debut.

"Alright then...let the game...BEGIN!"

That's the end of the chapter!

I feel a little evil right now, lol. Next chapter will be the rating game, new power, and a host of other things. Not sure if this chapter was rushed or not, but I did my best with it.

Some more slice of life stuff will start being shown once we get closer to canon, so things like more interacting with the peerage, training, her relationship with each of her members, and more.

Anyways, have a good day!
