Alexi and Eriks expectantly stared at Alek and their father on the carriage ride home. With the meeting with Dimitri done and the rituals complete, they had no desire to linger at the temple longer. "What did the priestess say to you, Alek? We couldn't hear her."
Alek's expression was knit with worry as she clutched her father's hand. "I don't want it, papa," she stated with a firm shake of her head. She looked to her brothers, her eyes wide. "I don't want it to be real… she was different. If the one thing is true does that mean the other is true too?"
"What do you mean, Alek? What did she say?" Eriks gently asked. "We want to help you feel better but we don't know what you are talking about."
Daniil's expression was tight and thoughtful, his eyes lost in thought as he looked out the carriage window into the darkness of the forests as they journeyed home.
