It's been more than a week since Tokyo Ghoul Volume 1 was released.
Sam entered the bookshop, spotting the shopkeeper engrossed in a book. Without wasting time, he walked up to the counter.
"Boss, did the next part of Tokyo Ghoul come in?"
The shopkeeper lifted his gaze, setting his book down. "Yeah, it arrived. There's also another work by the same author."
Hearing that, Sam didn't wait. He turned towards the shelf where Tokyo Ghoul Volume 1 had been last time. Right beside it, two new books stood Tokyo Ghoul Volume 2 and another one featuring a boy wearing a glove on one hand, with a girl standing behind him.
Curious, he picked up the new one.
The story began with a girl on a bus. She looked out the window and saw a fire raging in a park. In the middle of the flames stood a lone figure.
Then, she witnessed something terrifying.
The boy in the fire slaughtered everyone around him.
But the next day, there were no reports of any deaths no victims, no crime scene. Only the scorched ground remained.
Confused and shaken, she went to the police, claiming she had seen a boy killing people.
But no one believed her.
Then, the real nightmare began.
A new student transferred into her class.
It was the same boy she had seen in the park.
She froze.
It was impossible.
The boy from the fire, the one she had seen kill people he was standing right there, introducing himself to the class like nothing had happened.
His uniform was neat, his expression calm, and his voice polite. Nothing about him screamed 'murderer.'
Yet, she knew what she had seen.
"Not bad," Sam muttered, flipping to the next page.
The shopkeeper glanced up from his book. "Hooked already?"
Sam nodded, barely looking up. "Yeah, it's interesting."
He closed the book, grabbed both volumes, and placed them on the counter. A quick exchange of cash later, he was out the door, already itching to read more.
Sam stared at the page, his grip tightening on the book.
"What the fuck?" he muttered under his breath. "He killed the dog?"
He flipped the page, his eyes scanning the text. The next scene was just as brutal. Rei, without hesitation, set a man on fire.
"So his power is Pyrokinesis..." Sam mumbled, piecing it together.
The next morning, Sakura walked into class, her stomach in knots.
There he was.
Rei sat at his desk, completely normal, like any other student. Like he hadn't just murdered someone the night before. Like he hadn't burned a man alive.
Her hands clenched into fists.
How?
How could he act so casual? So… human?
As the story progressed, Rei notice something strange.
Sakura wasn't normal either.
His flames his deadly, all-consuming fire had no effect on her.
She didn't burn.
Didn't even flinch.
The volume ended with a chilling scene Rei standing over a fallen police officer. The flames reflected in his eyes, flickering as they consumed the man's body.
Sam closed the book, exhaling slowly.
Not a bad story.
Sam stared at the ceiling for a moment before looking down at the book again.
A slow grin tugged at his lips.
Yeah. He'd definitely be picking up the next volume of Code: Breaker
He look at the next volume of tokyo ghoul.
While he was reading he didn't know the continuation he made to the author.
...
Stephen's POV
The numbers floated in front of me, glowing softly.
[Fan Values: 1028]
[Conversion to Gacha Points initiated…]
[Fan Values: 358]
[Gacha Points: 77]
I exhaled. This was turning out to be a pretty damn good haul.
"Let's do the spin."
As the points dropped to 47, ten shimmering cards materialised before me.
Random World x2
Miyuki Kanda
World Unlocked: Wizarding World
Eto Yoshimura
Summon Upgrade Card x3
Rei Ogami's Glove
Akihiro Kanou
Limited Transformation: Rei Ogami
Background Customisation Card x2
Assimilation Slot x1
What the hell did I do to unlock three worlds at once?
Two were still unknown, but the third? The Wizarding World.
Magic. Wizards. Spells that could do everything from shapeshifting to teleportation. A whole new power system to tap into, and I had full access. This was huge. If I played it right, this could be the foundation for my magical side another layer of versatility in a world full of monsters, mutants, and superhumans.
And the characters I pulled? Not bad at all.
First up Kanou. The twisted scientist responsible for the ghoulification surgeries in Tokyo Ghoul. The man was a genius, easily on par with, if not better than, Shiba. If I was looking for someone to assimilate, Kanou was a top contender.
As for Shiba, I could throw him onto a summon or save him for later. That'd depend on my mood.
Then there was Miyuki Kanda. Rei's assistant with no superpowers, but she had experience of working for secret organisations. A solid summon if I needed someone with brains rather than brawn.
And last but definitely not least Eto Yoshimura.
The original One-Eyed Owl. A natural-born half-ghoul. Not some artificial hybrid like Kaneki a real one. She could eat human food without issue, which meant if I assimilated her, I wouldn't have to worry about that drawback if I ever got Kaneki's template in the future.
Honestly, that alone made her the most tempting choice.
But before I made any decisions, I had more cards to check out.
Summon upgrade card let me give template slots to my summons, making them stronger.
Background customisation card allowed me to create a backstory or setting for myself or my summons. Of course, there were limits, but with enough points, I could shape my own narrative.
With a additional assimilation slot I can assimilate two templates at same time.
Then there was Rei's glove kind of meh on its own, but the real prize was his Limited Transformation.
For thirty minutes, I'd be Rei Ogami. I'd have his powers, his combat instincts everything.
The only downside?
Once the time was up, the card would be gone for good.
A one-time-use deal.
Still, not bad.
Cracking my knuckles, I leaned back, grinning.
"Alright… let's see what other worlds I unlocked before I do my next spin."
