After pumping themselves up with countless concoctions of wolfsbane, the two Alphas finally relaxed. It was more like they were subdued by the influence of wolfsbane in their veins. It was damaging to the wolf's kind to come in contact with that portion, but they had no other choice left.
But the regretful thing about this was that the poison that they used to subdue rogue and lawbreakers was now used on the Alphas that ruled the biggest pack in existence, the Crimson Moon pack.
"You okay?" Eros asked as he strugglingly sat up in his seat while Asheron seemed too out of it to even respond.
"She is our mate," Eros said with a dazed look in his eyes. He couldn't believe even his own words; they sounded so bizarre, "Our Fate mate....ours, and she is a human." That last word made Asheron react.
He looked at Eros before saying, "A human cannot be our mate." his words were filled with conviction like they wouldn't change at any cost.
Eros frowned at that, "But she is, what can we do about it?" It was simple with him. All he had to do was go and claim his mate and worship her like she deserved. He didn't know why his brother was making it so complicated.
"She is a human, Ros"
"So?"
"Humans are weak," Asheron started, "They are pathetic, greedy, and an enemy of our kind. That woman is no different"
"Ash is right," said Samuel as he stepped inside the room, "A human cannot become the Luna of our pack. Father wouldn't allow it either." he was in the worst state compared to the other two. He was injured due to the chains and disheveled which was unlike his usual self. Ash and Eros thought the same, the Sam they knew was always wearing his sharp suits and looked immaculate. Just a weak Human had undone his years of discipline in maintaining his image. She really didn't deserve to stay by their side.
Now that Eros thought about it with a cool head, he too agreed with his brothers, but something else bothered him, "Then what the hell we do about this stupid mate bond?" It was a worrisome issue. Even now, he wanted to run to that human and pin her down so that he could mark her. His canines ached with fluid that was reserved only for mates.
"We will keep ourselves pumped with wolfsbane if that means staying away from that human," Asheron suggested. The pain of having poison inside their body seemed better than marking a human as their mate.
Samuel nodded, "I'll inform the labs to make the dosage more potent." The research was going on, and his orders would only hasten the process.
Eros sighed, "That's decided, but doesn't it make us weak with its prolonged use? There should be an end to this at some point"
"There will be an end," Sam said, gaining his brothers' attention, "Our mate bond with the human will end when we mark our chosen mates. We will choose adequate she-wolves and mark them as our Lunas"
"But that only works during Blood Moon," Eros voiced out, "Marking and all become successful only on that day. The next one is in six months, what will we do until then? Can we really control ourselves from not marking her?" That was the thing that worried him the most. What if one of them snapped control and marked her? Then all three of them will get tied to her. It was not that difficult to deduce seeing the fact that all of them were tied to the same woman. If one of them decides to have her then the remaining will have no other choice but to accept it.
"What if we kill her?" Asheron suggested his voice cold. It was devoid of even a hint of sympathy for Elia who was innocent in all this fiasco.
Sam quickly put an end to it though but it was not because he cared about the human. Killing her had a chance of harming them and he didn't want to take that chance, "We can't, and I'll explain why in a few minutes. I ordered Liam to bring the old relics, I just want to confirm if I'm right"
"But isn't it wrong to kill her?" Eros voiced out, "She did no wrong, committed no mistake"
Asheron reclined in his seat, "Becoming our fate mate was her mistake"
Eros frowned, "Still!.....it is wrong for us to kill her....!"
"No one is killing her, Ros." Samuel stopped things from escalating. He knew about Eros' short temper and that was the last thing he wanted to deal with right now, "Just calm the fuck down"
Their exchange came to an end when they heard a knock on the door, "Come in," Samuel said, followed by Liam entering the room.
"Alpha" the latter greeted them before putting the document in his hands on the glass table in the middle of the room while the brothers sat on a sofa that rounded the table.
"It is as you guessed, Alpha" Liam started, "Harming a mate...or her dying by any possible means will strip the male powers and slowly kill them. No male in the old relics has survived after his fate mate died"
Eros looked shocked, "This is not the case with chosen mates. How can it be so different?"
"Well, males with chosen mates don't act like feral dogs when they are in their mate's presence," Samuel chuckled as he looked up at Liam, "Weren't we exactly that, Liam? Acting like feral dogs just because of some worthless human"
Liam lowered his eyes, not daring to look straight at his Alpha, and said, "It was a natural response towards a fated mate, Alpha. It was neither yours nor that woman's fault"
Samuel observed his Beta with a frown on his face, "Aren't you a little too desperate? Trying to talk on behalf of that human?"
Liam looked alarmed as he raised his head, "Alpha.....I didn't mean...."
"Get out" As soon as Samuel's orders left his mouth, Liam scurried out of the room.
Samuel's gaze didn't relax even after his Beta left the room. For the first time in his life, there was a kind of burn inside his stomach that refused to cool down. He didn't like Liam taking an interest in that Human. That much he knew but he refused to acknowledge it out loud and turned back to his business.
"As you two heard, we can't kill that human," he concluded, making Eros sigh in relief. He didn't even realize that he was holding his breath till then. Why was it so? He didn't know.
Meanwhile, Asheron looked unaffected by everything and got up from his seat. He glanced at Sam and stated, "I leave you to deal with this matter, Sam. I have more important things to attend to." With that, he left the room.
"What will we do, Sam?" Eros asked eager to hear Sam's plan regarding the matter because the only one that used his brain amongst them was Samuel. Eros and Ash didn't care about many things.
Whereas Samuel looked deep in thought as he stared at the closed document. There was no need to open it because he had memorized everything in it a long ago. It was nothing serious.....he just wanted to know what kind of life his ancestors lived. And by the looks of it, it was clear that they didn't live that well. Tied up with pathetic mate bonds that dictated their lives. He remembered being glad that it ended at some point while he went through the relics. Mate bond had no place in their lives. And that too not with a Human woman. Even his ancestors weren't this unlucky; they had She wolves as their fate mates until they disappeared due to unknown reasons.
Samuel was not in the least interested in the reason and with that, got up from his seat while Eros looked at him questioningly, "What? What did you decide?"
Sam looked at his brother with a serious look on his face while mirth danced inside his eyes, "I'm not telling you." And then he rushed out of the room, leaving Eros baffled.
"You pompous bastard!" Eros exploded, "You always do this!" He could do nothing but watch as his brother ran out of the room, not wanting to give Eros any peace of mind.
"Selfish pricks, both of them" he murmured to himself as he took a sip of beer after getting it from the fridge. And right when he was about to take the second one, he heard one of the guards' voices beyond the door.
"What is it?" He asked opening the door.
The guard bowed before saying, "The Human woman has woken up, Alpha." That made Eros' heart skip a beat.
"She is awake?" He asked, almost desperate, although he failed to notice it himself.
"Yes, she is fussing a lot," The guard said, "Saying that she wants to leave"
That didn't sit well with Eros. How dare she? Where would she even go when she belonged here with him? That thought ran through his mind like a broken tape as he furiously walked towards the workshop where Elia was present.
