A bit of rest

They collected fragments of ancient inscriptions that had been scattered during the conflict—symbols that might someday prove vital in unlocking further secrets of the mountain.

As the day wore on, Argolaith and Kaelred found a quiet spot on the plateau where they could rest and reflect. 

They sat upon a mound of shattered stone, the remnants of the battlefield stretching out behind them. The oppressive silence was finally broken by Kaelred, who spoke in a low, measured tone.

"Argolaith, today we fought as though our very lives depended on it—and perhaps they did. But know this."

"The mountain's trials are not over. We have only scratched the surface of what awaits us. This guardian was but one of many tests that the ancient powers will send our way."

Argolaith gazed out over the battlefield, his eyes distant yet filled with determination. "I understand," he said slowly.
