"I finally have my house," I thought, looking at the keys still in my hand. "Now how do I buy a Pagani?"
I decided to do some research on the internet. I discovered that this car is sold in a few specific dealerships in the United States — it's not something you can find on every street corner. Luckily, there was a dealership here in Los Angeles that had a model available: a Pagani Zonda 760 VR, priced at $1.5 million, recently launched.
"A little pricey," I muttered, scratching the back of my neck. "But this is the one I want. I'll pay for it up front, no installments." It was going to be a tight month, but I'd still have money for other things I wanted. "I need to talk to Sam," I realized. "We haven't spoken in almost five days."
I picked up the cell phone and dialed. Riiing, riiing, riiing.
"Clark?" she answered, her voice surprised.
"Hey, babe," I said. "Are you free today?"
"Yeah, I just trained with my dad," he replied. "Why?"
"I'm going to buy a car. Do you want to come with me?"
"A CAR?" she exclaimed. "Why don't you buy one from my father's store?"
"The car I want isn't in his shop," I explained.
"What car is that?" she asked, curious.
"Secret," I replied, a smile in my voice. "So, do you want to come?"
"Yes, I do," she said. "And what kind of boyfriend are you, huh? You don't talk to me, you don't go out with me… Hmph."
"Sorry, gorgeous," I said, laughing. "I've had a busy few days with some things."
"Okay, I forgive you," she said, softening her tone. "Come and pick me up at my house. I'll get ready now."
"Okay, I'll be there in a few minutes," I promised.
A few minutes later, I pulled up in front of her house and honked. Beep, beep, beep. Sam opened the door and ran over to me, her hair blowing in the wind. I took off my helmet, pulled her in for a quick kiss, and handed her another helmet. "Shall we go?"
"Yes, let's go," she replied, climbing onto the back of the bike.
As we drove through the streets, she broke the silence. "So… what have you been doing these days that you haven't even been able to talk to your girlfriend?"
"I bought a house," I revealed casually.
"A HOUSE?" she cried, almost losing her balance. "WHY DIDN'T YOU ASK ME TO GO WITH YOU?"
"Haha, sorry, beautiful," I said, laughing. "I didn't even think about it. My mind was racing, and it all happened so fast."
"I see," she said, still surprised. "Where is this house you bought?"
"It's a mansion near the beach," I replied. "I'll take you there sometime, it's not that far from here."
"!!!!! A MANSION?" she exclaimed. "Clark, how rich are you?"
"Hahaha, your boyfriend is pretty rich, gorgeous," I joked. "I have some money saved up. Basically, I'll never have to work in my life. I have about $700 million in the bank."
"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 700… 700 MILLION DOLLARS?" she screamed, almost choking. "ARE YOU KIDDING ME, RIGHT?"
"I'm not lying," I assured, laughing at her reaction.
"What do you mean?" she asked, still shocked. "Were your parents rich?"
"I'll tell you everything later," I said evasively. "We're here."
We stopped in front of a huge dealership, the building gleaming with glass and lights. Sam's eyes widened. "Wow, this place is huge."
"It's practically a mini mall," I said, getting off the bike. "Come on, let's go inside."
As soon as I stepped into the store, three attendants came toward me, arguing over who would serve me. They decided among themselves, and a woman in her 30s, with a professional smile, approached. "Good afternoon, sir and miss. How may I help you?"
"Good afternoon," I replied directly. "I came in the Pagani Zonda VR."
"!!!!! THE PAGANI, SIR?" she exclaimed, her eyes widening.
"Yes," I confirmed. "I saw that it's the only one available in Los Angeles."
Sam stood there gaping at me, saying nothing. The attendant regained her composure and said, "This way, sir." She led us up to the second floor, where several sports cars gleamed under the lights.
"Clark…" Sam murmured, looking around. "Look at these cars, they're amazing… My God." She saw a price sign and thought: Over a million dollars…
"Yes," I said, admiring the machines. "I'll buy some of those eventually, but the one I really want is that one, without a doubt."
"Here you go, sir," the attendant announced, stopping in front of the car. "Pagani Zonda 760 VR, 2009."
Sam was speechless, his eyes glued to the vehicle. "That car is… beautiful… THE PRICE OF IT… 1.5 MILLION DOLLARS, MY GOD."
"Yes, miss," said the attendant, smiling. "It's a magnificent car, but the price is quite high. Not just anyone can afford one of these."
I ran my hand over the bodywork, feeling the smooth paint and the new smell it gave off. I jumped into the car, sitting on the soft leather seat. The attendant gave a little cry of fright. "!!!! Be careful, sir!" But she soon relaxed, seeing that I knew what I was doing.
I looked around the interior—ergonomic steering wheel, carbon fiber accents, pure luxury. "This is it," I declared, staring at the attendant. "I'll take the little one."
She was stunned by what I said, then jumped up in excitement. "Sir, just a moment. I'll get the manager." She ran behind the counter.
I turned to Sam. "So, babe, what do you think of all this?"
"I don't even know what to think, Clark," she replied, still in shock. "This is a whole other world for me. I've always had a good life, but there's nothing like buying a car like this on any given day of the week."
"Hahaha," I laughed, as the manager arrived with the attendant.
"Hello, sir," said the manager, a man in an impeccable suit. "Are you buying this car?"
"Yes," I confirmed.
"Please come with me," he requested.
About an hour later, I walked out of the trading room with Sam by my side. "Phew, glad that's over," I sighed, rubbing my neck.
She chuckled. "Haha, you really don't like reading, do you?"
"It's really annoying to have to face a giant contract like that," I complained.
"So, the car will be delivered in a week, right?" she asked.
"Yes," I replied. "Unfortunately, I have to wait a week to get it home. But at least it's already paid for."
"A week goes by fast, my love," she said, with a mischievous smile. "How about we have some fun now?"
"Okay, where do you want to go?" I asked.
"Everywhere," she replied, laughing.
"Okay, then hold on tight to my waist," I joked, climbing onto the bike. "Hahah."
Vroom, vroom. I sped up, and Sam screamed, clinging to me. "AHHHHHH!"
