The silence that had settled between them was shattered by a deep groan from the moon looming behind. Its cracked surface shed fragments of rock, each piece vanishing into the dark storm clouds below. The air tensed with distant thunder and fleeting sparks of lightning.
The Moon guards looked terrified by the ball of fire that burned in the palm of his hands—eyes darkening on each one of them.
Ira observed his senseless behavior and realized he wasn't just bluffing when he said he would come for her head should things go otherwise.
He looked murderous, like he had been possessed by something much more evil than himself.
''You broke my moon,'' Ira said softly to him. Not understanding why her precious baby had to suffer for something it wasn't a part of. ''Why?''
The faint trace of tears that trickled down her cheeks surprised even her moon guards, who had always regarded her as a strong God who can never be moved or shaken. The more she stared at him the more her heart ached and broke all over again.
It was just so unfair.
One good thing she did in his sinful life and this is how he repays her?
How ungrateful.
Ira blinked away the fresh tears welling in her eyes as she stepped closer, desperate to pull him out of his madness. She paused at the edge of the cloud she was standing on with her loyal moon guards.
''Do you think she would be happy waking up as a demon and in a congested place as Hell? Living by your twisted principles and growing up to be a bloodthirsty monster just like you?''
The King Of Nightmares took a moment to close his eyes as that hit a part of him he didn't know existed.
''Do you think she would be happy to find out that her beautiful, beloved, imaginary lover is nothing but a sinful devil god that does nothing but tortures people and has an army in his image in the dungeons? Can you imagine what's going to happen should I fulfill your wish?'' She finished in a more compassionate tone when she saw him retreating to that insane part of his dark mind. Face stiff and deep in thoughts.
With newfound boldness and confidence, convinced she held the upper hand. ''I will tell you what is going to happen since I am the more sensible God here that does what is right,'' She spoke with her chin held slightly up as she gazed down at him with a judgmental glare.
''You will be hated—just like everybody else. Despised and cursed at. She would leave you like I did, and your followers once did after hating the very dark light that mold you into who you are now.''
This isn't the part where he secretly craves adoration and love, longing for it so desperately, only to grow agitated when others say otherwise.
A sickening chill traveled down the length of their spine at the crazed smirk that spread on his lips. It revealed a bit of his pearly teeth as the soft wind of the heavens blew against him.
They all fell back once more when his eyes opened to seize them all up. The fire burning in the palm of his hands was fueled by this itchy feeling that was flowing through his veins.
He was sick.
The Devil God—a being so feared that the very whisper of his name sends shivers down the spines of everyone in the realm.
The infamous Demon Prince, bound by a covenant with darkness, was said to bring only pain, destruction, and death. He was a harbinger of hopelessness, shattering the faith of those who worshiped her as their God.
''What's the matter with that?'' He drew out. Another ball of fire materialized on his other hand, fusing both balls into one mass of flaming destruction. ''The deal was to have her be by my side, not to worry what happens after that.''
Ira frowned as she tried to understand what goes on in this demon's head.
Does he not care for her safety or comfort?
The demon's prince's eyes flickered as if reading her thoughts.
''Nothing bothers me more than when she is not within my grasp,'' His eyes then fell heavily on the flaming ball in his hold. ''And you have just made that impossible. How furious should I be to show my displeasure?''
Ira decided not to say anything but try to understand the type of relationship they hold for each other. It appears that what matters to them both is to have each other glued to their sides forever without caring for the consequences or the discomfort it brings to the other party.
He doesn't fear what she would think of him once she finds out who he was, what he is made of and how capable he is when it comes to destruction.
They all call him the King of nightmares and the devil god for a reason.
He doesn't care if she is forced to survive in his cruel system and realm—as long as she is by his side…
''I'm sorry,'' Ira began, catching everyone off-guard, including the demon prince. ''I didn't know that was what mattered to you.''
His glares grew heavy on her, wondering what she was getting at.
''I will find my way around this to make both of us happy.''
He refused to back down, even though she realized she made a mistake by betraying his trust.
''She will be made yours, I promise you this.''
Ira slowly turned her back on him as she signalled to one of the moon guards to prepare to leave.
He watched her turn her back on him as the flaming ball of fire dissolved from his hold, but he was yet to let his guard down.
''You can destroy the moon completely if I should fail to keep this new promise with you.''
She soared high into the night sky, her small army of moon guards following closely behind. Her heart ached at the thought of her precious moon—a celestial body that held over thirty percent of her power—forever altered by her decision to interfere in his affairs once more.
