Shadow watched carefully as the Ogre's and Goblins all escorted the humans out from the cave, they really couldn't believe that the monsters that had once eaten them were the ones letting them go
Shadow, of course, didn't let them see him, but he watched them. The day was growing dimmer, but that never posed as a problem to Shadow.
The night was his domain.
The only concern was his Aunt Lisa…
He sighed and looked away from the now free prisoners. He hoped they were too shaken to remember the exact location of where they had been held.
He still needed to do some more investigations.
He walked back to the false wall he had seen earlier, it seemed hollow, as though it was recently built by the monsters he had subjugated.
He rapped his knuckles against the wall, indeed it was hollow.
He didn't feel the need to use his mana to break it down, rather he called another ogre who stood idly yonder to his left.
"You, come here…" Shadow said.
The ogre scratched its head but obeyed and came over.
"Smash through this wall for me, would you?" He commanded.
The ogre nodded and raised both its fists in the air. This ogre seemed to be among the stronger ones. He was so happy he didn't have to kill the lot of them.
He wouldn't have survived.
The fists of the ogre smashed against the wall, the cave walls shook slightly as the shock sent tremors through the entire cave.
Dust covered the entire path before Shadow, he held his breath and tried his best to see, but it was too dark beyond.
He walked over to the wall and took a torch that was placed by the wall. How convenient.
With torch in hand, Shadow walked in through the place whee the wall had once been. Maybe there as a secret passage to get I to here.
But he couldn't care less.
After a bit of coughing, he raised the torch above his head and what he saw wasn't all that surprising, but it was damning.
He resisted the urge to throw up as the ghastly smell slammed him in the face.
It smelled of Death in here.
Rotting corpses and maimed bodies littered the floor.
The entire thing seemed as though it were made for ritual rights. But he wasn't sure.
He wanted to take a deep breath, he really wanted too. But he couldn't bring himself to do it.
Holding his breath seemed like the best course of action right now.
Step by step, he approached the bodies that lay about in the cavern. On one side he could see a severed head with a dagger though it's eyes. Maggots were leaking out of the head at this point.
To his left he saw dismembered part of the human body, all were human. Yet even that didn't catch his attention as what stood before him.
Further up ahead, Shadow could see a raised platform.
A human body lay on it.
Feeling a bit surprised, Shadow walked toward it to observe what it was that he saw, and then…
Then he saw it.
Blood symbols, rites, all aiming towards one thing.
It was a Demon Cult…
He looked around desperately, trying to find other clues that could help him, and also as an excuse to look at what remained of the body on the altar.
He would rather not look. It was a woman's body.
She had been torn apart and something was dragged out of her, something smaller than her but still human.
Don't think! He told himself.
But even this was too much for him. Without meaning too, he breathed in the pungent air. It smelled worse than he had ever thought it to be.
Shadow threw up.
He couldn't, he just couldn't bring himself to ignore what this was. It was a cult that captured humans.
Especially women, got them pregnant and used both the babies and Mother as sacrifices?
What in Damnation?
What does this even exist?
Shadow felt the urge to leave the cave and never return, he so badly wanted too. And maybe he would have.
If his eyes didn't catch the paintings that were drawn on the wall. Illustrations.
A certain kind of history, perhaps lost or forgotten, but he wasn't sure.
Syl?
YOU CALLED?
What the hell is this? Did you tell me to come here knowing I would find all of this?
....
Answer me Sly? Is this why you brought to me this world?
Shadow's voice seeped with anger, he didn't understand why he was angry, neither did he want to be tamed nor stopped.
ARE YOU BOTHERED BY WHAT YOU SEE?
Of course, I am, who wouldn't be?
THEN DO SOMETHING!
Huh?
Shadow was confused, he certainly hadn't expected that answer from the system.
"Do something…" He whispered under his breath as he looked at the mess about him. He so badly wanted to leave, to never come back, to run away.
But he couldn't, he didn't know why, but he couldn't.
He knew he had to do something, it was an urge, the more time he wasted, the more people would turn out like this…
Mothers. Children. Infants.
He sighed and looked about him once more, even if he ran away, he would be hunted by these images for as long as he lived.
"This is such a drag…" He sighed.
Shadow left the cavern, left the cave and walked out into the night. The cool beautiful moon shone its light upon him.
Bathing him completely and giving him a sense of self, purpose…
He wasn't sure what he felt, but it felt good.
He would do something about this, he knew, it was why he had been summoned here in the first place.
To save this damned world.
