6. MY HUSBAND

Evelyn woke up with a soft yawn, the room still cloaked in darkness. She sat up, rubbing her eyes, surprised by how well-rested she felt. It was unexpected. The bed beneath her was a mess, and her hair had tangled into a wild disarray—clear signs of a deep, undisturbed sleep. Ever since her father's illness, restful nights had eluded her, especially with the constant unease her stepmother brought.

So why had she slept so soundly in this dark, unfamiliar, and unsettling place? The thought lingered as she stood up, wobbling slightly on her feet. Was it still night? The room was so dim it was impossible to tell.

Her steps zigzagged toward the thin black curtain, which she shifted aside cautiously. The moment she did, a flood of sunlight pierced through, blinding her. Evelyn winced, squeezing her eyes shut as the sharp light stung. Slowly, she lifted her hand to shield her face, waiting for her eyes to adjust to the morning glare.

"It's morning," Evelyn murmured to herself, her voice laced with surprise. Her gaze shifted to the glass wall, which revealed an astonishingly clear view of the outside.

Her breath caught. Down below, a lush garden stretched out in perfect splendor, its beauty taking her by surprise. A smile tugged at her lips as she watched a gardener carefully tending to the plants, gently watering them with practiced care. Her eyes wandered farther to the tall trees swaying in the breeze and the birds perched among the branches, their songs filling the air.

The scene was peaceful—alive.

Drawn by the garden's charm, Evelyn turned and left the room, intent on going outside. But as she reached the stairs, she paused. A new sight greeted her. The house, once so dark and unsettling the night before, now bustled with life. Maids moved about briskly, cleaning and preparing food, their chatter and footsteps echoing softly through the hall.

She closed her eyes for a moment, breathing in deeply. The rich aroma of freshly cooked food filled her senses, warm and comforting. So different from last night, she thought, the corners of her lips lifting into a faint smile.

She opened her eyes when she noticed someone was coming toward her

"Young miss" She recognized him as the old man that led her to the room last night

"Ah! Mr, Good morning" She smiled

"Young miss, I'm a butler in this place you can just address me by my name. Sorry for the late introduction. I'm. Butler Ezra" He said bowing but Evelyn frowned.

"I refused," she said, forcing him to look up

"I will just call you grandpa," She said

"But young miss, I'm just a..." But she didn't wait to hear it again, she rushed downstairs

"Young miss…" He called after her and rushed in her direction

She ate breakfast alone in the big dining. It was like a feast. She stopped eating when she was full.

Everywhere was full of murmur and gossip. The news of their demon boss marrying spread across the mansion like wildfire

In her room

Evelyn closed her eyes as she heard a scream from the other end

"For real? Carlos Tyler is your husband? I mean congratulations! That's unbelievable!!!"

She heard her friend, Hanna roar at the other end

"What is there to congratulate? I got married to a demon…"

"A handsome demon girl!!!" Her friend cuts her in

" I haven't seen him since I became his wife, he is so cruel," She said, looking down at her fingers

"Girl, your husband is a workaholic, You should know that, isn't it good news? You ended up being the wife of that man every girl wants!!!" Hanna said with enthusiasm from the other end.

"Hanna, take your phone and type Carlos Tyler's wife and see the result it will give you. The mighty Carlos got married and not a single soul knew!" Evelyn said and Hanna smiled

" he is probably trying to save you. Imagine the world knew, Everyone would criticize you, they would say you seduced him or something. You know everyone wished to marry him huh?" Hanna said and paused for a while.

" Now that I'm saying this, I guess the demon also has a good side of him. I wish I was the one he signed the contract with"

"HEY!! Are you coveting my HUSBAND??" She shouted

"Whoa 'husband' huh?" Hann said trying to tease her

"I'm busy, I've got to go" Then Evelyn hung up, quiet and embarrassed

"Husband? Did I just call him my husband? No that's a slip of tongue, a mistake" She shook her head.
