Fate's Cruel Twist

Sophie hurried home, her heart pounding in her chest. The cryptic phone call had left her anxious, and the sight that greeted her upon arriving only deepened her unease. Her modest home was surrounded by several black cars, and imposing bodyguards stood stationed at the entrance, their dark suits and sunglasses giving them an air of menace. A man stood in the center of the chaos, his posture exuding authority.

Sophie's stomach churned as she recognized him—Riley Woods, the secretary to one of the most infamous Mafia bosses. She had heard of him before, whispered about in dark corners of the city, but seeing him here, at her family home, was utterly surreal.

"What is going on here?" Sophie demanded, her voice shaking as she pushed through the crowd.

Riley turned toward her, his expression calm but cold. "Miss Sophie Davis, I presume?"

"Yes," she replied, her voice firmer this time. "What's happening? Why are you here?"

Before Riley could respond, her father, Jack Davis, emerged from the house, his face pale and drenched in sweat. Sophie's anger flared at the sight of him, knowing full well that his actions had likely led to this.

"Dad, what's going on?" Sophie demanded, her voice rising. "Who are these people, and why are they here?"

Jack hesitated, avoiding her gaze. "They… they came to collect a debt," he muttered.

"A debt?" Sophie repeated, her voice incredulous. "What debt? I sent you money every month to help out! Where did it all go?"

Jack looked away, guilt etched across his face. "I... I used it. I didn't mean for things to get this bad, Sophie. But now, they want the money, and I don't have it."

Sophie felt her stomach drop. "How much do you owe them?"

Riley stepped forward, his voice calm but chilling. "Ten million dollars."

Her head spun. Ten million? How could her father have sunk so low? "Ten million?" she repeated, her voice barely above a whisper. "Dad, how could you?"

Jack's voice was desperate now. "I didn't know what else to do! I thought I could pay it back, but it got out of control. And now... now they're demanding payment."

Sophie glared at him, her voice filled with disbelief. "And what are you going to do, Dad? Sell the house? Beg for more time?"

Jack's silence was deafening.

"Answer me!" Sophie shouted.

Jack finally met her eyes, his own filled with shame. "I had no choice," he whispered. "I… I offered them something else."

Her blood ran cold. "What do you mean, 'something else'?"

Riley stepped forward, his calm voice cutting through the tension. "Your father has transferred his debt to you, Miss Davis. You are now his payment."

The words hit her like a physical blow. Sophie stumbled back, shaking her head. "No… no, that's not possible. You can't do this!"

Jack reached out to her, but she slapped his hand away. "How could you?" she screamed, tears streaming down her face. "How could you sell your own daughter like this? What kind of father are you?"

"I didn't have a choice!" Jack shouted back, his own voice breaking. "They were going to kill us all! I had to do something!"

Sophie turned to Riley, her voice trembling with rage. "This isn't legal! You can't just take me like this!"

Riley's cold expression didn't waver. "This is not a matter of legality, Miss Davis. Your father signed the agreement. You now belong to my employer."

Two of the bodyguards stepped forward, and before Sophie could resist, they grabbed her arms and began dragging her toward one of the cars.

"Let me go!" she screamed, thrashing against their grip. "You can't do this!"

"Sophie!" Jack called out, but she turned her head, glaring at him with a look of pure betrayal. "Don't you dare say my name!"

The drive was a blur. Sophie's mind raced as she tried to process what had just happened. Her father had sold her. The man who was supposed to protect her had handed her over to criminals. Her thoughts spiraled, her heart pounding as fear gripped her.

The car eventually came to a stop in front of an opulent mansion. Sophie was escorted inside, her eyes darting around as she tried to make sense of her surroundings. The grandeur of the place only heightened her unease.

Riley led her down a long hallway, stopping in front of a set of double doors. He opened them and gestured for her to enter.

Sophie hesitated, her legs trembling, but the guards behind her pushed her forward. She stumbled into the room, and the doors closed behind her with a heavy thud.

The room was dimly lit, with only a single lamp illuminating the space. A figure sat in a chair at the far end, shrouded in shadow. Sophie's breath hitched as the figure stood and began walking toward her.

When the light finally fell on his face, Sophie froze. Her heart stopped, her mind refusing to believe what her eyes were seeing.

It was him.

Aiden Wilson.

The boy she had fallen in love with all those years ago. The boy she had admired from afar, whose rejection had broken her heart.

But this wasn't the same Aiden she remembered. This Aiden was a man, his presence commanding and dangerous. His eyes, once so kind and warm, now held a cold intensity that sent shivers down her spine.

Aiden stopped a few feet away from her, his expression unreadable. "Sophie Davis," he said, his voice low and measured.

Sophie's legs threatened to give out beneath her. "Aiden?" she whispered, her voice barely audible.

He studied her for a moment, his gaze unwavering. "So, this is what Jack Davis has come to," he said, his tone laced with disdain. "Selling his own daughter to settle his debts."

Sophie flinched at his words, her emotions a whirlwind of shock, fear, and disbelief. "You… you're the Mafia boss?"

Aiden didn't respond immediately, his piercing gaze locking onto hers. Finally, he spoke, his voice softer but no less intimidating. "And you're the girl who's been dragged into this mess because of him."

Sophie felt tears prick her eyes, but she refused to let them fall. She couldn't believe this was happening. The boy she had loved, the man she had dreamed about for years, was now the one holding her fate in his hands.

"What… what are you going to do with me?" she asked, her voice trembling.

Aiden didn't answer right away. Instead, he turned and walked back toward his chair, his back to her. "That depends," he said finally.

Sophie's heart sank. She had no idea what lay ahead, but one thing was clear—her life would never be the same.
