A Day at the Castle

The next morning, the Pattons were up early, eager to explore the castle and its gardens. Mrs. Patton, Olivia, Drae and Matt followed their appointed tourist guard, Sir Edward, as he led them through the grand halls and corridors. After the first ten minutes of sight seeing and long historical stories.Drae, however, had other plans.

As they walked through the castle, Drae lagged behind, her eyes scanning the walls and furniture with a curious gaze. Suddenly, she spotted a door that seemed slightly ajar. Without hesitation, she slipped through the opening and found herself in a vast library.

The room was filled with shelves upon shelves of books, their leather bindings creaking softly as they seemed to stretch up to the ceiling. Drae's eyes widened as she breathed in the musty scent of old parchment and ink.

She felt like she had stumbled into a treasure trove. She wondered why they'd leave the Library unguarded but anyways it was their lifestyle, wandered around in awe.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Patton, Olivia, and Matt followed Sir Edward through the gardens, marveling at the beautifully manicured lawns and vibrant flowers. The sun shone brightly overhead, casting a warm glow over the scenery.

As they walked, Sir Edward pointed out various landmarks and shared stories about the castle's history. Olivia listened intently, her eyes shining with fascination. Matt, on the other hand, seemed more interested in the birds and squirrels flitting through the trees, he dashed over but no one paid him kind since he was still on sight and not ruining anything.

Mrs. Patton smiled, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere and the company of her children. She was grateful for the opportunity to spend quality time with them, away from the hustle and bustle of their daily lives. Though she didn't suffer and leaves averaged, she wouldn't deny she didn't miss her maiden life.

As they explored the gardens, Mr. Patton had earlier excused himself, heading into the main city to attend to some business matters. He kissed Mrs. Patton on the cheek and promised to return soon before they all went for their tour.

Have a wonderful day, my dear, he said, smiling. I'll join you for dinner tonight.

Mrs. Patton nodded, watching as Mr. Patton disappeared into the crowd. She turned to Sir Edward and smiled. Shall we begin our tour?

Sir Edward bowed, his expression formal. Of course, Lady Patton. There's still much to see and explore.

As the day wore on, Mrs. Patton, Olivia, and Matt visited the castle's chapel, the great hall, and even the kitchens. They met the castle's staff, including the cook, who showed them the intricacies of medieval cooking.

Drae, meanwhile, remained in the library, devouring book after book. She read about history, science, and literature, her mind expanding with each new discovery. The librarian, a kind old man named Mr. Jenkins, smiled as he watched her absorb the knowledge. Not aware someone watched on at her

You're a true scholar, young lady, he said, jerking her to reality she was startled he went on to her patting her shoulder. Do not fright I'm glad to see you're making the most of our library, it's indeed unusual to see a lady in our library especially one not accompanied by a governess. I would love a new scholarly recruits that's if you are willing or guardian wishes.

She just stared on at him which he continued.

Are you mute perhaps, what is your name.

I am not mute she snapped but quickly apologized with her head bowed.

That's fine my dear, it was rude of me to assume such, you must not be from around here ?

I'm not she said deadpan, my name is Drae Patton.

Also an usual name .

That's not a country common name is that a short for something.

Thinking sharply she just said hydrangea.

Hnmmm was all the old man said, Ahh don't let me interrupt your reading, go on dear.

Looking at the man retrieve, they man was off, she couldn't place it, his iris seemed sort of slit but she pushed it as the though the stress of looking through pages.

As the sun began to set, Mrs. Patton, Olivia, and Matt returned to their quarters, tired but happy. They found Drae sitting in the common room, surrounded by books and papers.

Ah, Drae, we've been looking all over for you, Mrs. Patton said, laughing. What have you been up to, we began to worry but the guard says he saw you go to the library.

Drae looked up, her eyes shining with excitement. I've been reading, Mother. I've discovered so many wonderful books.

Mrs. Patton smiled, shaking her head. You're a true bookworm, Drae. I'm glad you're enjoying yourself, hope you caused no trouble?

No was all she said and continued her reading.

Olivia rolled her eyes, I wonder if she'd become the country's diplomat or scholar, atlas she can only settle for a governess.

That's rude, yes my baby would be a great scholar

Or a measter, snorted Olivia.

Stopped that now young lady, Mr Patton arrived just in time.

As they settled in for dinner, Mr. Patton returned, looking tired but satisfied.

I've had a productive day, my dear," he said, kissing Mrs. Patton's cheek. How was your day?

Mrs. Patton smiled, her eyes sparkling. It was wonderful. The children enjoyed the tour, and I learned a lot about the castle's history. But I believe who had the most was our dear Drae, she had gathered the entire Dartons library.

Mr. Patton nodded, taking a seat at the table. Ahh that's my girl, I'm glad to hear that, ensure to return them tomorrow or whenever you are done said Mr Patton

Tomorrow we must prepare for the royal gathering on next moon which is a day after, and I'm looking forward to it, hopefully we all are.

The Pattons spent the rest of the evening relaxing and enjoying each other's company. They knew that the next day would be a big one, and they were eager to see what it would bring.
