Chapter 8: Danger

Vanessa's POV

I was going to follow Matt to go to Zein on the dance floor, but I saw Matt carrying the unconscious Zein before I could get away from the table.

He was walking slowly, but you could see in Matt's eyes that he was about to explode angrily. I had never seen him like that before.

"Hurry up to the clinic!" Mia shouted from behind me.

A guard came over to us and carried Dave, who was also unconscious. The dancers stopped, and the music faded. We have the students' full attention again. I was looking at Dave. His skin was noticeably dry.

Shit! This isn't good!

Soon, Madam Violet came over to us. "Everyone who was not involved in the incident, stay here. Let's keep the party going," Madam Violet shouted with a serious grin. It seemed like she knew something about what happened to Dave and Zein.

I clenched my fist. What kind of headmistress is she? She still continued the party even though his two students were unconscious. Shit!

Matt and the security guard had already taken Zein and Dave to the clinic.

"Hmm... it looks like the bloodshed has started," whispered the girl who told us earlier that the alcohol had drugs.

"Shut up, bitch!" I said and left her to follow Matt.

As I quickly walked towards the clinic, I couldn't help but think of the questions: who did it? What were they planning? Why were they targeting us?

I caught Mia sobbing outside the clinic while Jerome was holding her. Matt was dazed and deep in thought again.

"Who do you think did this?" I asked.

Matt looked at me and then shook his head with a smile. "Who do you think did it, Vanessa?"

"I don't know, and I have no idea." What's wrong with him?

We fell silent again. Mia's sobbing also subsided.

"You can come in now," said Nurse Cha.

We went in and saw that Zein and Dave were still unconscious. Dave's dry skin has disappeared, but Zein's condition worsens.

"A type of illegal drug was mixed with alcohol; the dosage is no joke, and that's why it had that effect. Dave might wake up soon, but Zein still needs to be observed," said Nurse Cha.

I feel weak because of what happened to them, but I am even more angry at whoever did this. They are demons!

"I'm just wondering, why did it affect Miss Shion?" she frowned.

"How did that happen?" Mia asked.

Yes indeed. Why was it worse on Zein? Why does it seem like something's wrong?

"I don't know either. How much did Miss Shion drink?"

"Zein only had two glasses. Dave drank even more. Why does it seem like the opposite happened?" Jerome asked.

"I can't answer that yet, but we'll conduct different tests. Don't worry. Once we have the lab results, we'll inform you. Excuse me," she said and left the clinic.

Matt sat on the sofa. Mia and I approached Dave and Zein.

"Whoever did this, I swear, I will never forgive them," Mia growled.

Zein's lips were turning black, and his skin seemed bloodless. I hope nothing terrible happens to her.

"Damn that nurse!" Matt whispered loudly and then pulled his hair.

I frowned as I looked at him. What was the nurse's fault?

"Matt, Nurse Cha is innocent," Jerome said.

Matt laughed sarcastically. It was terrifying. It was like he wasn't Matt, as if something possessed him.

"Do you think they'll help us?" he asked. "No. Even if we die, they won't do anything." He stood up and approached Zein, then stroked her hair.

"W-What do you mean?" Mia asked, confused.

Even I was also confused by him.

"She didn't do anything. She didn't treat or even touch Zein and Dave," Matt said.

I looked at Zein and Dave again. They seemed to be struggling to breathe, especially Zein, but there was no oxygen attached to either of them.

"Bitch!" I said angrily. I was about to leave when Jerome stopped me.

They really are demons. They're testing us. I'll never forgive them if something bad happens to Zein and Dave.

"We need to do something. Zein and Dave's lives are in danger," I said.

No one could speak to us because we didn't know what to do.

Soon, the window on our side broke. Jerome quickly went out to see who did it.

"I don't like this! I want to get out of here!" Mia screamed in fear.

I hugged her. Her body was shaking. It was like we were in a nightmare or a game where we didn't know our opponent or the rules.

"There's no one outside," Jerome said after he returned.

I noticed Matt holding a small metal case. When he opened the case, it contained a vial of what appeared to be a glowing blue liquid.

"What's that?" I asked. I approached Matt, staring at the bottle.

"Is that what they threw? What was that for?" asked Jerome, who couldn't take his eyes off the bottle either.

"They want Zein and Dave to drink this," Matt said and then looked at us.

"Who? Wait! We don't know who gave it. Something bad might happen to Zein!" I pleaded. Zein and Dave's condition might get worse if we let them drink it. We don't know who it's from.

"We need to trust them. Zein and Dave's lives are in danger. If they can't be cured soon, it could be..." he explained, seeking approval.

"Matt's right. That could be the cure," Jerome agreed.

I don't know what will happen if they give Zein and Dave that, but their lives could be in even greater danger if we don't act.

I just nodded.

Matt smiled and patted my shoulder. "Trust me." He approached Zein and Dave.

Matt gave Dave a drink first before Zein. A few minutes passed, and they were still sound asleep.

"B-Why does it seem like nothing happened?" Mia asked.

All of us stayed silent. I could feel everyone's concern, but we had to be strong. This is just the beginning.

A few moments later, Dave slowly opened his eyes. He was panting. We handed him water, and he asked for more. He had three glasses as if he hadn't drunk water in days.

"You're awake!" Mia said tearfully. She hugged the man.

I smiled. We know Mia has eyes for Dave.

"W-Where is Zein?" Dave asked.

He looked at the bed next to him. Zein was still unconscious.

Suddenly, the vase next to Matt broke. When we looked back, his head was down, as if he had lost hope that Zein would wake up.

"Stop that. Zein will wake up! Why are you acting like that?! Zein will open her eyes! She'll still be a bitch to us!" I said tearfully. I approached Zein and shook her.

Zein is not dead yet! I will not allow it!

"Why did it work on Dave but not on Zein?" said Jerome.

We fell silent again. The door opened again, and a young girl entered.

"Who are you? What are you doing here?" Mia asked.

"I'm not an enemy. I'm here to help you," she replied.

She approached Zein's bed. We all looked at her and waited for what she would do.

Our eyes widened when she pulled out a knife. We couldn't move. We just watched her as she lifted Zein's dress and cut a small slit in the middle of her chest.

"What are you doing?!" Jerome grabbed the girl's arm, but she didn't react at all.

"Ahh…!"

Matt stood up when he heard Zein's weak moan.

We were encouraged.

"Now, give her what they gave her to drink," the girl said.

Jerome let go of the girl's arm.

Matt quickly approached and gave Zein the remaining liquid to drink.

"That's the antidote. A type of medicine that can clean the blood vessels in the heart. It didn't work earlier because she was unconscious, so I cut her open to wake her up," he explained.

When Zein opened her eyes, I jumped with joy. Like Dave, she was very thirsty, and I cried with joy. My friends also approached Zein and hugged her one by one.

When I looked for the girl who helped us to thank her, she was no longer at the clinic.

"Where is she?" I asked.

They just shrugged and smiled again. Finally, Zein and Dave are safe. I'm thankful for those who helped us, but there is one thing that I wonder about.

According to her explanation, the antidote will only work if the person taking it is awake. It didn't work on Zein because he was asleep, but why did it work on Dave?

Is it possible that Dave was awake and didn't actually pass out? But how?
