Slipping Away

Adrian's voice was a whisper, lethal and cold. "You're in my way, mutt."

Caleb's lips curled back, a low growl reverberating deep in his chest. "And you're in mine."

The air between them felt charged, like a storm about to break. Adrian's fingers tightened around the lapels of Caleb's jacket, but Caleb shoved back harder, forcing the vampire to stumble slightly. Adrian recovered quickly, his silver eyes flashing with something dangerous.

"You think you're doing her a favor by hovering like some protective little pup?" Adrian sneered. "You had your chance, Caleb. And you wasted it. You avoided her, pushed her away—and now you think you can just come back into her life like nothing happened?"
