Pain

Colonel Esker POV (Dream World)

After emptying all the bullets in her gun, Colonel Esker and her group moved forwards towards where they duo were standing before it turned dark again.

'My aim was bad. I can't get used to not seeing the muzzle flash or my targets,' she contemplated. 'This could be an issue in the future …'

After making so much noise there was no point in not communicating with her partners so she said in an assertive voice, "Look for bodies and blood trails, don't let them get away."

Seeing that both Eshet and Hira nodded in agreement they continued down the dark path slowly after reloading, making sure not to miss any signs of the duo. Because of their military training, the group was able to stick together despite the lack of visibility.

Before long, a rustle of tents off to their left could be detected, a zipper of a tent followed closely after. Still no signs of the duo appeared.

More rustling was heard of to their left but the right side went silent. Soon enough the group paused, having come upon a trail of blood leading to the right. Seeing this her quick and calculated thinking immediately determined the most ideal course of action for her group.

"That person has lost too much blood, we don't need to chase them.

Let's go for the rustling on our left and after they are dealt with, come back to finish the one on our right if they are still alive."

"Ok." Was the response Esker received from both of her group mates before they turned to the left and started to slowly creep off the path towards the other individual.

Esker's heart was calm, she was trained to kill and had already killed innocent people numerous times before today's event. After all, her survival was on the line. 'I'm just glad nobody attacked that demon and followed our lead …' She thought before her thoughts trailed out having reached the line of tents.

Rustling could still be heard, getting further and further away, but that didn't bother the group. 'The more noise they make the higher chance another group kills them,' she mused, the contours and sharp features making her visage appear cold and detached.

Still though, they continued their trek towards the unlucky straggler.

Shem POV (Dream World)

Hearing the women speak the magical words that they would not kill him immediately caused him to let out an imperceptible sigh of relief. Instantly after, Shem's mind filled with worry, guilt, and concern.

'They are going after Lorey!'

'Shit, what do I d-', his mind abruptly stopped, the injured calf causing him agony as the adrenaline wore off. As if a switch was flipped in his head, Shem doubled over in pain clutching his injury, blood continued to seep from the wound causing a ghastly sight.

While clutching his wound Shem failed to notice the sound of gunfire eerily close to his location.

His semi-long black hair fell to cover his shut eyes, tears welled in the corners threatening to fall. The pain appeared to have abused him into a dreaded world of his own where only pain assaulted him, so he also failed to notice the world growing bright again.
