…
After she was fully healed and discharged, it was now time to settle the scores.
She was currently lounging on a sofa in the living room, slowly drifting off to Neverland. She clearly felt his gaze pinned on her, and while she knew she owed him an explanation she was still not willing to face his discontent.
"Adelaide Emilia Wade", Zeke called in a grave tone.
"Don't even try to pretend you can't hear me, because I know you can. Care to explain why I had no idea about the events that happened before you landed in the hospital with an injured arm? Because I would like to know why my wife was perfectly okay with not telling her husband anything when things were clearly getting out of hands.
Look baby, I understand that we've only just known each other. Heck! It's not even being a week, but damn it! I'm your husband, like it or not, I'm your only family right now.
I understand if you didn't remember calling me while there was trouble at the cafe, but then it escalated and you had to got to the police station to deal with a con artist and you still did not let me know?!
Baby, I'm here to stay, but if you're not involving me in how things are going…I want to be able to help you, I want to be the shoulder you lean on." He spoke in an helpless manner.
"I want to be there for you, Laide. I'm your husband, and I hope you always remember that." He finished a d then walked out of the apartment.
She couldn't utter a word to call him back. It turned out he was really hurt by her, and truly she did forget about him and when she did remember she chose not to call him regardless.
She watched with a forlorn expression as he closed the door but still couldn't muster the guts to summon him back.
…
He knew he couldn't blame her negligence, but he couldn't help his selfish desires. He wanted her to think of him more, how he wished he lived in her mind just as she had dominated his.
He couldn't keep himself from thinking about her all day, that was why he rushed to her cafe the moment it was closing hours, even his assistant could hardly manage his expression after seeing him clock out at the normal time, and now imagine his shock when he got to the cafe and discoverer that she was at the hospital dealing with a troublesome customer.
As it was the evening hour where people where returning from work the traffic was very intense but he still rushed to the hospital anyways. He searched for her unable to suppress his worry, seeing his restlessness he was approached by a nurse who eventually informed him they had been redirected to the police station. Hastily he thanked her and once again began another journey, musing at how only Ezekiel Steel's woman could have him running to and fro in such a manner.
He was only a few steps into the station when he saw her holding on to a bleeding arm and staggeringly falling to the ground.
The panic that overtook him was something he had never experienced before. He regretted not getting to her early enough and was even further upset at the fact that she never even put a call or a message through to him.
It cut through him that he wasn't someone she could call when she was in trouble.
Was he so unreliable in her eyes?
Their marriage had only just started, and he can very much admit that he was being extremely selfish but she was already his whole world. He had known her far longer than she's known him, but he still couldn't help but want to become her everything.
Besides it was so trivial, but what would have happened if it was more than a stab from a pen? What if the man had a knife instead? And their relationship was not made public yet, even her colleagues would not call him if anything had happened to her. If he had not happened to get to her before she left the station, he couldn't imagine what the aftermath would have been.
…
He was not mad at her, but he had to settle his feelings. He didn't want to say anything that would hurt her either.
He also knew she would not be at ease being all alone, but she had to learn to rely on him.
So he was going to wait, he was going to wait for her to call him, to coax him.
He knew it was manipulation but she would only feel better if he seemed mad and she had to coax him instead, so he was going to wait for her instead. He was going to wait for her to totally give herself to him, to open up her heart to him.
…
Back to Adelaide
He had been gone for four hours, it was now ten o'clock in the evening and he still wasn't back.
She had reflected on her own actions and indeed she could see it from his perspective to an extent. And he wasn't even asking a lot from her, he just wanted to know whether she was doing fine.
He already cared alot for her and she chose to turn a blind eye to his affections.
She wanted to apologize to him, she understood if he was angry at her, but she didn't want him to ignore her. She also knew the only reason he left earlier was to avoid hurting her, but she'd rather he lashed out than hold it in for fear of hurting her.
She decided to call him.
She carefully dialed him and waited with bated breath for him to answer, almost like he had been waiting for her call, he picked up instantly.
"Husband!" She called out happily. And she swore she heard him stifle a groan.
