CHAPTER 7: A WEB OF DECEIT AND AN UNINTENDED KISS

Calanthe's world was spinning out of control. Kairos's words and the kiss she gave her left her reeling and breathless. She couldn't shake off the feeling that she was trapped in a web of deceit. Was the kiss Kairos gave him part of his plans or it meant somethingelse?

She tried to make sense of her situation, Ryder appeared at her side, his eyes staring at hers which made her heart skip a beat.

"Calanthe, I need to talk to you," he said with an urgent voice.

But before he could say another word, Kairos intervened, with a dripping smile. "I don't think that's a good idea, Ryder," he said with an angry, jealousy expression.

Ryder's eyes flashed with anger, but he kept himself cool, his eyes never leaving Calanthe's face. "I'm not going to let you hurt her, Kairos," he said.

Kairos laughed, "You're too late for that, Ryder," he said with triumph over him. "Calanthe and I have an understanding."

Calanthe felt like she was drowning in another world. Since does want to interfere the two men's conversation. She knew she had to get away from him, but she didn't know how.

And then, in a move that caught her completely off guard, Ryder pulled her into his arms and kissed her.

The world around her melted away as she felt Ryder's lips on hers. It was a kiss that was both fierce and gentle, a kiss that left her breathless and wanting more.

As they broke apart, Calanthe saw the shock and anger on Kairos's face, and she knew that Ryder had just changed the game. But she had no idea what the consequences would be.

Kairos's face turned red with rage as he took a step forward, his fists clenched. "You think you can just kiss her and claim her as your own?" he spat, his voice venomous.

Ryder stood his ground, his eyes never leaving Calanthe's face. "I'm not claiming her as my own," he said. "I'm just showing her that there's more to life than being a pawn in your game."

Calanthe felt emotional and tears flowing from her eyes, as she looked at Ryder. No one had ever made her feel like she was worth fighting for.

Kairos's anger seemed to grow by the second, his face turning redder and redder. "You're going to regret this, Ryder," he snarled.

Ryder nodded and just smiled. "I'm shaking in my boots," he said with sarcasm voice.

Calanthe felt a laugh bubble up inside her, but she quickly supressed it. She knew that Kairos was not a man to be trifled with, and she didn't want to make him any angrier than he already was.

The tension between the two men continued to build, Calanthe knew that she had to do something. She couldn't just stand there and watch as they clashed. But what could she do?

Just as it seemed like the situation was about to escalate further, Calanthe stepped forward, "Stop!" she said, her voice firm but shaking slightly. "Just stop."

Kairos and Ryder turned to her, their faces identical masks of surprise and anger. But as they looked at her, Calanthe saw something else in their eyes- a glimmer of curiosity, of wonder.

"What do you want, Calanthe?" Kairos asked with a calm voice.

Calanthe took a deep breath, trying to calm her racing heart. "I want to know what's going on," she said. "I want to know why you're fighting over me, and what you want from me."

Ryder stepped forward, his looking at hers. "I'll tell you," he said. "I will tell you everything."

Kairos's face darkened, his face flashing with anger. "You'll do no such thing," he snarled.

Ryder just smiled, "Oh, I think I will," he said, his voice dripping with confidence." You see, Calanthe, you're not just a pawn in Kairos's game. You're the key to unlocking a secret that could change everything."

Calanthe couldn't believe what Ryder had just said. Her mind full of other questions. What secret? What game? And what did it have to do with her?

Kairos's face turned red again as he took a step forward, his fists clenched again. "You'll never tell her," he snarled. "She'll never know the truth."

"Oh, I think she has a right to know." Ryder said with a smile on his face. "Don't you want to know, Calanthe?"

Calanthe nodded, she had to know the truth. She had to know what was going on.

Ryder took a deep breath as he was looking at Calanthe. "Calanthe, you're not who you think you are," he said with a serious expression on his face. "You're not just a simple girl from a small town. You're...you're something more."

Calanthe become more confused, her mind was shocked. What did he mean? What was she, if not who she thought she was?

Kairos's laughter cut through the air. "You'll never tell the truth,"he repeated. "She'll never know who she really is."

"You can't decide for you Kairos." Ryder said, "Oh, I think she's ready to know," "Aren't you, Calanthe?"

She felt like she was standing on the edge of a cliff, staring into an unknown abyss. She was ready to take the leap, to discover the truth about herself and past.

Ryder took a deep breath, "Calanthe, you're a descendant of an ancient bloodline," he said, "A bloodline that holds the key to unlocking the secrets of the universe."

Calanthe's heart was shocked and surprised of what has been said. She was also confused by everything that was said by Ryder. What was Ryder talking about?

Kairos's laughter cut sarcasm. "You are just a pawn in a game you don't understand," he sneered.

Ryder giggled, while looking at Calanthe. "You're more than just a pawn Calanthe," he said. "You're the key to everything in this universe. And I'm here to help you claim your destiny."

After Ryder's words, Calanthe felt powerful and determined. She was ready to claim her destiny, to unlock the secrets of the universe. And she was ready to do whatever it took to make it happen.

Calanthe's determination grew, the air around her seemed to charged with electricity. Kairos's face was twisted in a snarl. Ryder's eyes gleamed with approval, his smile hinting at secrets yet to be revealed.

The room seemed to hold it's breath, poised on the precipice of a new era. Calanthe's soul was awakening to the truth. She was no longer just a pawn, she was a queen, ready to claim her throne.

("I think it's my turn to be the leader and the queen to be bowed. I will make sure to reveal the whole truth.") Calanthe's mind.
